Yes I have done a search but I couldn't quite find the answer I was after

Found this and I'm pretty tempted to dump this in to replace the current 3.5 (I've driven a 110 with a 6.5 + running gear and it was nice) does anyone know if the running gear in a series will cope ?

I've got a salisbury rear axle and standard front so just wondering if it's gonna get shredded by the torque. Apparently the old ozzy LR's in the 80's had an Isuzu engine fitted that weighed around the same.

i doupt a stock series could cope with the sheer torque that thing can put out, let alone your series is on drums? and anyway, isn't the rangy box permanent 4wd and series is selectable, so not quite sure how you'd get around that tbh, best off sticking with the 3.5 in my opinion.

that is a na motor is it not? they were about 175hp might want to go to a 6.5 as they were turbo and a better motor

Torque rating is only around 275lb's I think not really much for a 6.2 but they run like tanks and sound good too

Yes it is although you can get a turbo conversion, saying that though I think in a series 6.2 is more than enough. The upside to this engine is that it's located about 60 miles from our house in scotland so I could easily store it in the garage there for a few weeks if I was to buy it

Think it's actually less than 175bhp ………way less actually according to wiki

Horsepower / Torque (at start): 130 hp (97 kW) @ 3,600 rpm / 240 lb·ft (325 N·m) @ 2,000 rpm
Horsepower / Torque (at final): 143 hp (107 kW) @ 3,600 rpm / 257 lb·ft (348 N·m) @ 2,000 rpm
Horsepower / Torque (army): 165 hp (123 kW) @ 3,600 rpm / 330 lb·ft (447 N·m) @ 2,100 rpm

you notice I said about. Used to have one got mixed feelings for them.
would I own another one no way was a money pit. I would spend my money and build up a 300 or a td5 as parts would be easier to get

haha yeah I just remembered it being less when I was reading on wiki, I was looking at what problems they had

Did you find that it overheated or was just a pain ?

There was never a problem with over heating, still can not figure why you Brits have a problem with your stuff? It does not like any bio diesel at all eats up the rubber, plastic material in the fuel system but just loves farm diesel:D:D the good high sulfur stuff. Had glow plug problems and had the motor counter rotate when trying to start with either and blew the starter off and cracked the block where the starter bolted to. New motor:eek:and the starters are like 275-300$.

No idea, I put it down the rover taking a buick engine and making it worse then not fitting a decent size rad

Guess thats rare though cracking the block ?

Over here the Buick is a good motor, small light and lots of potential for some big HP:D
You could go to a chevy small block they have crate motors at 525hp look at summit racing supply and have a look:D

Problem is over hear the chevy 350 blocks demand a lot of cash

That GMC one is cheap and after driving a 6.5 version this one can't be much different :D

I will scour ebay for other classic blocks but this one looks to be a winner so far, might just need to fet some 3 leaf para's for the front instead of the current 2's (and fit power steering)

Why would you want an engine more than twice as big as my 200 but producing the same, if not less, power? If I had a 6 litre engine I'd be expecting 4 or 500 horsepower.

I believe its because a) they sound far better than any landrover diesel

and b) due to the fact that its a big engine that produces little power it doesnt get worked as hard, hence they go on forever which is why the US army use them

Mine's done 160k but Maybe it doesn't sound the same. Mine does sound fantastic though with my fully home made exhaust.

From reading round the net these used to be used in GMC trucks and other large trucks until the Cummins engines took over so some would clock up 500,000 or more due to the nature of the jobs they had

I've driven the 6.5L version of this and it's without a doubt the best sounding diesel V8 I've ever heard

Plus it would go real well with my truck stacks

Sorry Dr. Evil The army, armed forces all branches are getting ride of them like hot potato's they are out dated , like the Mod getting ride of defenders.

You would get better weight to hp ratio with a built up 300 and a more reliable motor than a V8.

Stacks are for puffs. Two side exits on each side and it will sound better.

Learn something new every day ;)

Thing is I want a V8 as the current engine in a V8 so it makes sense on my part to replace it with another

Plus given the bore of my custom exhaust it needs to be a decent size engine to utilise it

Been ringing round about rover V8's though so might still end up with one of them or hopefully a cheap fix. Landrover spares are picking it up this week (once I locate those damn door bolts)
