This is an incredible find, 43 Land Rover defenders brand-new with no miles in one place.

They are all left hand drive, however they can still be shipped here and to most of the the other Caribbean islands.

So, why can't they be used in the UK or EEC?

I was wondering that?

Surely if VAT & import taxes were paid they could be used over here?

And what is so special about 43 brand new Defenders currently? They are still produced, a few years time yes this would be significant but not at the moment surely?

Looks like they were built for UN or Red Cross use ? I'm guessing there waiting to be shipped when needed.

It says they are all in Kms not miles so it might be easyer for them to sell as they are to abroad without getting 40 new dash's changed over?

Can't use them in UK or EU because they are EURO 3 versions. The cost of getting them converted to EURO 4 would be prohibitive.

Withams sell stuff like this and I asked. Basically they can't be sold for use in the uk as they are made for 'third world spec' - they don't have the kitemarks and safety certificates for use in Europe. The cost to get them approved would be unrealistic as each component will have to be changed for a stamped one ( no doubt it's actually the same part, stamped or not).

Usually these situations crop up as some foreign country or business outside the ue has ordered a load ( say China or somewhere) and then the order is cancelled. The cars can't enter the man stream as they don't have uk type approval (or something) and it can't be gained retrospectively, as a result they can't be road registered. Hence the sale outside of the uk.

Withams had an Aston Martin in the same situation a few months ago, it sold for about. £100k less than normal and was only delivery miles. They reguy have jags and other stuff like that for the same reason.

Hmm, the article says they are Puma's but the engine photos show TD5's?

Been in touch with them, all they have new are LHD models, either way I would love to have one
