300tdi swap. Tips for installation?

I pulled the old engine out today. It was fairly straightforward. the only problem was lifting the engine clear of the chassis engine mounts. I anticipate that may be a problem putting the new engine back in.

Are there any tips that I should follow for the installation?

when I do my 300tdi conversions I always find it easier to put the engine in first and then lift the gearbox up to it.that being said your gear box is still in the disco,it may be easier to lower gear box slightly before dropping the engine in.it is a bit of a pain aligning the clutch spline to the input shaft of the gearbox.

100% make sure that the studs are EITHER in the new engine or the bell housing. Not both.

Both is bad.


Both involves a lot of headaches and re-removing engines.


Basically, it is a bit of a bugger to get back in, on the mounts and lined up, but, not really hard, just a bit of a bugger.

Un-bolt the engine mounts from both points so they are loose, this means you can move things around a lot more to get it all in

ive just put 1 in mine 2day and wat i was told workled ok take your engine mounts off put the engine in and bolt to gearbox then lift engine up and you do just have enough rooom to get the mounts back on its a bit off a faff but i tried getting engine in with them on and couldnt line everything up

It went back in after a bit of faffage ensuring everything was level and aligned.

I took the engine mounts off completely including the big metal plates. That helped a lot.

Just need to fill it with coolant and antifreeze in the morning.
