Anyway, there are peeps on here who are total anoraks experts on the mark. @discool for example.
As for prices of parts, I have to say mine have gone wrong so rarely I am not the person to ask! but I find service items for both of mine, cos I have a V8 as well, are no problem.
But you are right, mine are both older than you, as all of them must be!
you can also get Jap imports which I would seriously consider.
Buy the cleanest one you can find with as much service history as you can , blah, blah, blah.....
Some people buy them to do serious off-roading/pay and play site visiting and then the mods you mentioned are good.
Some just bling them up cos they like the looks, fair enough and they may have had a softer life.
Some are bought so yummy mummies feel safe taking their kids to school in them.
Others, like me, bought one for a specific reason, in my case long distance heavy towing. which it did faultlessly I have to say.
They are beginning to rise in value as good ones are getting harder to find and the prices of Defenders has gone totally stupid, since they aren't making them any more, the modern version being a whore's handbag in comparison!
Best of luck anyway!:):):):).

Ah I know where now

yea I think I’m going to give it a go as the community seems great as well. I’ve always thought if it starts costing me money I can always get rid of it and try something different. Hopefully it’s not that bad. Thankyou for the help appreciate it.

Might be worth checking price of insurance before committing.
Good one, never thought about that, being so old. But there are specialists young drivers can go to. Most advertise in mags like LRM to get a reasonable quote and they are not necessarily too bothered about bigger tyres. .

Ins at 19 will be a serious killer, young lad I used to work with paid well over 200 quid per month for his v8 90.
Any mods at all, and they will rape your wallet.

Yound lad I mentioned above was about 8/10yrs ago, so I can believe them quotes!
I think it is all about the damage he could cause with the large car.

I pay 354 quid for my d3, and that was not the cheapest.

I pay £250 odd with SAGA. Have to go with them as no other insurer gives you more than 90 days insurance abroad in a year. Unless you have a camper van Tossers! And with SAGA you can't modify nuthing!

I know my wife was complaining her dads insurance was getting silly, 650 quid for his nissan leaf, does maybe 2k per year, he is 85 and I had heard once you get past 70 they see the risk increasing, hence the higher prices.

So Stanley my question to you is, being as you are a Nonagenarian, how do you get your ins so cheap:D
Ps I had to google Nonagenarian!
