Evening all,

Just after some help with my 300tdi bonnet.

The bonnet itself is in good condition however, there is a steel strip which has been riveted to the underneath where the catch pin and bonnet dampers attach which is completely rusty and just about to rot through.

Does anyone know if/where I can get a replacement for the steel strip hoping I can just drill out the rivets and replace that bit.

I don’t want to have to buy a new bonnet but not sure how long the bonnet dampers and catch pin are going to stay attached.

Photo added is not my bonnet but shows piece I am after.

Cheers

I sorted mine out last summer. The same piece was badly rusted but seemingly still solid. I didn't find a new replacement for that particular section nor even the whole framework anywhere. I de-riveted it, took the frame out, and had it blasted and primed. I sprayed it, cleaned up the underside of the bonnet and refitted the frame with some polyurethane sealant between the two. You may have to think about weld repairs to yours.
Getting the frame out was a bit tricky, persuading it over the bonnet rear edge, but do-able with some thin strips to help it slide over the edge. I did it single-handedly so it would be a good bit easier with 2 or more. Getting it back on with sealant in place was messy but it's a tight fit and no other way.

Thanks for your response, just not sure there will be much left if I blast it.

I have got a few bits I am taking to the powder coasters so I might just ask if they will give it a go when they blast the rest of the stuff. See what comes out the other side. HaHaHa

Cheers
