Well I can see you probably need help communicating with another human being in an appropriate manner. But other than that, obviously none as you are by far the most intelligent person I have yet to meet. The knower or all things. BEHOLD HE HATH ARRIVED.

I was simply trying to assist the OP.
As the OP stated, he adjusted the settings, it went through its MOT then "suddenly" lost power. How is the manner of his adjustment of his fuel pump to "suddenly" lose power.
Enough of the arrogance crud anyway I really couldnt care.


T.E, I would say lift pump mate or you have a tiny hole in your fuel line somewhere perhaps. Something thats meaning that the injection pump cant draw in fuel properly. I use a small section of clear hose in my fuel line so i can see if theres any bubbles etc that indicate problems like this. Might be worth slipping a piece in.

How can you assist until you know what he has done. Wait until he answers my question about how he adjusted the fuel.

because your question is irrelevant if it was running fine on the run back from the mot station then it suddenly died as he was driving it.

Did he say that. He said it was gutless and died after he had played with the pump i think. But with your expert knowledge of injection pumps i am sure you will sort it for him.
 
no im not an expert and never claimed to be as such and I dont pretend to be either. I know very little about anything. Just what little I experience in the world.

So your saying its his injection pump then basically, and your claiming to be an expert.

One thing I have noted in the various engineering industries I work in is a common factor about experts being decidely useless, then blaming a lack of data to be able to make a decision. Whereas most reasonably people make a gut feeling judgement call.

I obviously read that differently to you wammers.
I read it as

  • I adjusted my pump so it didnt smoke
  • passed it mot
  • something knackered on it shortly thereafter
  • Thought it might be something to do with my playing with it, so i put it back how it was originally and its still bollacked.

Wait until he answers the question then. I need to know what he did to what on the pump. Then we might progress.

yes,got a very good idea,anyway sorry for the late reply been in work,anyway got home and started to trace the problem,checked the normal suspects,turbo working pipe from turbo to pump etc,then looked at the throttle,somehow,and its a bloody mystery how,the adjuster had slipped,so was effectively not getting full travel,sorted that and it now pulls like a train,very,very lively,only smokes a bit on load and tick over is high,so as far as i can see diaphragm is back in its original position,all i need to do now is wind out the fuel control idle screw on the back of the pump to stop it ticking over so fast

Doing that will reduce fuel. Rev the engine and adjust fuel until you get what is acceptable smoke. Lock adjuster up. Then reset throttle stop to adjust idle. Don't play with boost needle.

which ones the boost needle,problem i have is pump was played with when i replaced the engine a few months back,it came with a pump so god only knows whats been done too it

The boost needle is the tapered pin attached to the diaphragm that is driven by air pressure from the turbo. You can seriously cock up the fueling playing with that. As i said earlier if you want to give the engine a little more thrutch. Increase the fuel on the adjuster (the idle will rise) adjust inwards and rev engine until you get what you consider acceptable smoke. Then lock it off and adjust idle stop to reduce idle speed. That way you get low down torque increase and more fuel through the rev range. There is no need to play with boost fuel unless you increase boost pressure or you will lay a smoke screen like a bloody destroyer.

thats what i want too avoid,i use mine as a van and want to keep fuel costs down,i dont need it drinking diesel and smoking its guts out,i have moved the diapragm back to where it should be as set by bosch/land rover,luckily they marked its postion with paint
 
If the diaphragm has been turned to increase boost fueling you can usually see the original score mark made by the boost pin on the cone if you remove it.....if you wish to return it to something like factory settings.

If there's only one score mark the chances are its not been moved
