thats what i want too avoid,i use mine as a van and want to keep fuel costs down,i dont need it drinking diesel and smoking its guts out,i have moved the diapragm back to where it should be as set by bosch/land rover, luckily they marked its postion with paint

If it was turned then the chances are both the smoke screw above the diaphragm and the star wheel at the bottom of the chamber were also turned clockwise....by how much is anyone's guess

Ok turn the adjuster outwards until idle drops to normal. Then see if power available is acceptable. But if you need a little more, adjusting fuel as described is the way to get it NOT by playing with the boost fuel pin. As Beasty says there should be a witness mark on the tapered pin to guide you in putting it back properly.

cheers guys, this is the downside of having a replacement lump supplied with a pump, trying to right someone elses cock up,i was quite happy with the way the previous lump performed with its unmodified pump
doesn't sound too bad to me, just needs a little tweak to reduce smoke if excessive.

playing with the pin, smoke screw and star is fine, no need to chuck fuel across the entire range imo
