Thought I'd share the following wrt the 3 orange lights (ABS, TC and HDC) on a 2002 TD4.
They appeared from no where - interrogated with my trusty Carsoft i930 and was given error "n/s front ABS sensor fault". Carried out resistance check and noted it was open circuit.
Simple enough to change - note that the 2002 car has a blue plug on the sensor. Old sensor came out no problem (held by one screw).
Old one had been worn through on cable due to popping out of clip and rubbing on wheel rim.
Tested new one with multimeter before fitting and noted that the resistance measured about 6 Meg Ohms. Measured old one from damaged cable to sensor - about 6 Meg Ohm.
Drove car - lights went out, used i930 to reset fault memory - job done.
So - the message is:
1) - Check yr sensor wires are in clips and not worn through.
2) - If 2002 onwards beware of suspecting duff sensor - they seem to be around 6 Meg Ohm when working and this is not easily measured on a basic multi-meter. So - if you measure open circuit don't bin it until you have checked with a meter capable of checking the higher value.
I have read on this forum that ABS sensors are around 1 Kilo Ohm. That may be - for earlier cars?? But not for 'blue plug' types.
Hope this helps someone - or many !
Cheers.....
