Is like to say that this car really is brilliant as it pushes my mind a lot, sometimes in the wrong direction but hey, it's always working.
Will let you know if the shuttle valve sorts it out.

Hi Idrego,
Finally I have got rid of those pain in the backside 3 amigos. Yesterday I went and bought a new Shuttle valve as per the nanocoms request only to find out some little grease monkey has already messed about with it as they snapped off the middle bolt and all 3 mounting nuts where virtually coming off.
So anyway, I fitted the new shuttle valve and with a big smile on my face turn her over. Job done no amigos. I was so pleased. So I thought I'd check the Ohms on the old shuttle valve. These were spot on. So worriedly I turned her over again only to find them damn amigos had rolled in to town again. I won't type what my thoughts were. So after a calming Guinness I decided to carry out the wiring modification to the old shuttle valve and after half an hour those pesky Amigos had left the Disco. Well they were still not back by the time I was ready to come in last night so I will have another look today at some point with fingers crossed. Watch this space.

The most often source of failure to the Shuttle Valve Switches is not with the actual switches themselves but with the connection to the SVS plate. Take a look at a picture or at the plate itself and you'll see a twin socket arrangement in the middle. The fault is actually with the two pins which connect to that socket and they're deep inside the ABS unit.

What the wiring mod does essentially is by-pass that plug and socket arrangement and bring the SVS wiring out so that it can be connected straight into the vehicle system.

Even with a new SVS plate both I and Sierrafery would advise you to include the mod at the same time as replacing the plate. You'll probably only need to do it once.

Ok everyone.....the experiment has been completed and the results are in. Disco 2 TD5.

Until recently, I was plagued by the 3 Amigos. A new shuttle valve did not cure it. My local specialist hooked up diagnostics and reckoned a duff battery was to blame. They appeared every journey - sometimes coming on from startup, or flahing on with three chimes during the journey. I also had a separate problem with a slight hesitation on the motorway at 70mph which felt like fuel starvation. My alternator is OK and current draw at rest was around 20 milliamps.

Yesterday, I fitted a brand new high spec battery of the correct Ah and CCA type. Since then, I have done multiple short journeys, motorway driving, gone off road and the 3 Amigos have NOT appeared once! In addition to the 3 Amigos no longer appearing, the hesitation at motorway speed has also been cured. The old battery was not only failing to hold charge over time, it was not of a high enough Ah spec which wouldn't have helped. Looks like lower spec cheaper batteries are a false economy.

I will continue to see how it goes, but there does seem to be a link between battery condition and triggering of electical gremlins.
