Hmmm bit of a ****ter today... doing up the head bolts and one seemed to keep doing up before reaching the desired 90nm and SNAP managed to undo it it one piece. Turns out the trusty old torque wrench is no longer accurate. Brought a new one and tested the old one at 90 and it read 112nm on the new one! Hence the snapped bolt!

its a norbar, looks very similar to this https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=...m%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ff%3D33%26t%3D1114;800;481

on another note, here is the broken bolt

Norbar are good ones, no idea how quickly they go out of accuracy though

My cheap ass britool one I got off ebay was just outside the tolerance after a few years of no calibration, guy I got it off couldn't remember when he bought it but only 3% outside perfect.

Shouldn't be hard to get it re calibrated though, I did mine on a torque tester but sure if you ask a local garage they'll tell you where they get theirs done

my guess would be it can only go in so far before hitting the block, would think its tried to compress the base of the tap, lost and then something had to give. Had to be the bolt as the block was bigger so it won :p

Yeah you had a lucky escape really!

Maybe the mechanicals inside yours are worn/damaged as Doc suggested. That's way over torque so it's looking like something jamming.

It screws in and out using the stepper motor, so no you can't push it in and out by hand.

Plug it in and turn the igntion on and off and it should move iirc, or it winds in as soon as the engine fires at least!
