Hi all,

Just a quick question..

I have been reading all the old posts about adding 2stroke to diesel engines and that green mineral is required? However, I have the following which is red/low ash etc before I put it in could some kindly confirm this is ok.

Hi there Big Vin,

The colour is irrelevant - they colour 2-stroke so that when you mix it with petrol for your mower or whatever you can tell the difference.

I think on here a while ago we were having a laugh about the possibility of the Customs and Excise 'Tank-Dippers' thinking we were using the good old red diesel. :hysterically_laughi

No problem with the Castrol you've got there.

Personally i use Tesco or Asda or Halfords cheapest. :clock:

Whack it in the tank in the ratio of 200:1 which is 200ml per 50 litres, although some folks use a tad more - 250ml.

You should hear / feel / see the results quite soon.

Hi big Vin, so long as it is mineral and the higher the ash content the better but definately no more than 200:1 if in doubt put less in. simple equation how ever much fuel in Lts half it add a 0 and thats the amount of 2 stroke in ml required.
eg. 40lts halved 20lts add 0 200ml. simples.:D
 
It's something to do with putting the sulphur back in that the american oil companies take out to reduce the crap their prehistoric engines put out but the more advanced European engines require it .
 
I'm using the Halfords stuff - if you have a Halfords discount card - it's cheaper than Tesco. :D

Especially if you get it in the 250ml little bottles - so no messing with measuring. :D

And it should be low ash - it burns cleaner - definitely not the expensive synthetic type.

I've got to drive 175 miles tomorrow (mainly motoway) so I've filled up with diesel and chucked in 250ml of 2 stroke - the Halfords stuff - hopefully I'll be able to report back with positive results.
Incidentaly, is this something you'd add at every fill-up or only now and again?

This is the stuff I have been using from day one. Thanks to Singvogel and the guys pointing me in the right direction. I probably put a bit more in than I should seeing the mark has worn off the bottle. Probably putting in 350ml to 60 ltr. But running great, quiet, smooth,fuel economy not sure as I have used it since owning the freelander, but it has done 121,000 miles and still smooth as ever.I have done 6,000 in 5 months and wouldn't consider putting diesel in without the 2 stroke oil.
 
Well what a difference that made!

I've driven about 100 miles worth of mixed A and B roads and another 100 miles on the motorway - rarely having to drop below 70mph - and the difference was very apparent; smoother, quieter and seemingly better on fuel although I haven't worked that out properly yet. I brimmed the tank yesterday then added 250ml of 2 stroke and so far I've done 205 miles and the fuel guage is between half and three quarters full.

I'm running a 2005 auto with 82k miles.

And lastly is it best to use the 2 stroke with every fill up?

2-stroke every fill up for me!

I'm just back from Bosnia & Herzegovina - 2210 miles, 262 litres and 1 litre of 2-stroke. Works out at 38.12 mpg - not bad considering the following -

Overloaded, with a big roof-box, auto-g/box, cruise control set on 90 mph on the autobahn, saw 100K come up on the odometer in Belgium.

I'm delighted with the car's performance on premium grade 'super-diesel' - preferably Shell V-Power or Total Excellium, and added 2-stroke.
