Hi all

I just picked up a 24" LED light bar. My initial thoughts were to have it encased and at the top of the windscreen on the INSIDE. But it's not that practical so I'm looking at mounting above my winch at the top of the grill. I mean literally cut the grill and stick it in. I don't really want to mess with the 'lines' of the car so don't really want it on my roof for example.

Anybody see an issue with this? Without looking, I can only think of the brace bars that are there, are they essential?!?

I've got a winch and my number plate is on the grill too, will adding something else drastically affect air flow?!?

Also...

Assuming they will go up front somewhere, even if in grill is a no-goer, are there any cables already up there? I have no fogs up front at all, just standard headlights. I remember poking around and finding some connectors that look like they might be for additional lights up front...can I use these if so? Where do they go back to?

Theres not any cables as standard, could be someone has had some lights up there before and they have been removed? But best to trace the wires back to see where they go.

I wouldnt put it in the grill, your really getting directly in the way of the airflow and on a hot summers day when your pulling something heavy yourll be swearing....

Think i'll relocate the numberplate and cut it into the top of the grill. I've just offered it up and it should only stick out a few cm's if that. However, it does mean cutting in to the heatsink at the back of the light bar. I've just had it on the bench for half hour and the heat is hardly even notable.

I'm guessing I don't need a relay for this either, just back to a fuse?

This is mine with a 20" lightbar in the grill, I had to cut the heatsink on the back but it has been no detriment to it.

Excellent, glad to know it works before I start hacking things to bits. Does it fit almost flush with the grill? How did you secure it that low down? I'm gonna go high and mount to metal hopefully.

Will hopefully get it fitted tomorrow and wired in the week over a lunch break or two :)

Almost there. Just need to fix it somehow and then wire it up :)

I'm very happy with the finish, nice and flush, doesn't spoil the 'lines' and almost factory-fit looking...

Excellent job mate! Well done!
As for the plate. Cable ties to the side of the bumper

I do love your attention to detail

Cheers

Do you mean on the bar of the winch bumper? If so, that's a no go for a couple of reasons. The bar is a tube so round. The number plate is too long. It won't look great.

I'm thinking about making a mount for it and having it over the rollers. Failing that, maybe cut it down and go on window flap.

It will ultimately end up on roof rack when I come round to that...maybe :)
