In my opinion, the surface area of the crank against the shell will be no match for the very small (in comparison) tab, which will simply bend back once the shell/crank gets hot enough to seize on to eachother..Difficult to see a shell turning with the tab butted against solid metal.
This is a myth that has been doing the rounds for years, many many vehicles have no tabs on their shells, td5 being well known on here, they do not snap their cranks or run their shells. The td v6 engine in all these motors ,are prone to the bottom end bearings turning in the big end caps ,n shutting off oil feed too the crank then it spins its shells and all goes wrong , It in my opinion the shells should have locating tabs on its shells .In that would stop them turning in the bottom end ,but they dont they are held buy pressure, press fit ,so the video could be the beginning of the end ,bottom end starting to knock or it could be a knocking dry cam follower....think u said the cam belt got changed ,might have jumped a tooth.
I have seen seized crank journals that have ripped the shells to bits but the shells have not rotated. In my opinion, the surface area of the crank against the shell will be no match for the very small (in comparison) tab, which will simply bend back once the shell/crank gets hot enough to seize on to eachother..
Maybe not the best words but you get the gist
That's more than I've seenI have seen seized crank journals that have ripped the shells to bits but the shells have not rotated.
Page 5.Hope this is of interest ref shells spinning
Yip, only when they deprived of oil or debris has made its way into that galleryYes mate is called calculated crush, all bearings fit in this manner, bearing of multiple layers called a sputter bearing new word I learned the other day Lol when the bearing gets enough grip on the crank they will spin regardless of notch
And oil dilution from excess diesel ,due to a blocking DPF but thats another story ..Not changing oil has big effect too
Might be cheaper to find a working one from a scrapper as the block on yours may be beyond rebuilding.Hi guys, Crankshaft has definitely snapped, need engine rebuild for my 3L 2016 Diesel Range Rover Vogue. Could anyone recommend companies that can rebuild it and what sort of price should I expect to pay? I'm based within the M25 (Essex)
Kind regards,
Jay.
