I don't think that's terrible progress really :)

tractor and loader: great for removal. very nice and quick.

ok for putting back in. i find though a minidigger is better for putting back in as i have worked out a way to rope it up so i have tilt control (can be done with loader tractor) but also i have side to side adjustment without repositioning tractor ;)

A friend borrowed our engine hoist a few years ago and whilst he had it he built a load balancer for it, very simple, but, very useful - ok so it's all manual, but, we can't all have minidiggers and tractors lying around! It does make a huge difference though.

how dead is dead ??

i could be interested in that for spare parts(or rebuild potential), i run two Series motors with 200tdi's fitted with no intention of ever parting with them so parts pile is relatively important to me

oh and actually having some idea of where you are could help :)

Not taken the head off, but, basically piston rings need replacing as it was smoking a lot and the cam belt snapped... nothing has come out the side of the engine but i imagine things are a bit mangled internally.

If you'd like it feel free to make me an offer - no thermostat, no alternator, PAS, clutch, starter motor, but, everything else is there.

New engine is in and runs, just sticking it all back together again now :)

If you decide to 'break' the engine, do you by any chance have the lower part of the thermostat housing? My mate messed his up trying to screw in the wrong temp sensor and can't find another anywhere. He's talking about putting another sensor in with chemical metal which can't end well....

oh and one day I must get that crimper back off you lol
