I never really got into the N/A side of things just stuck to the turbos, but the lads were certainly using 13:1 CR pistons without any fancy gas etc. I mean i can find stock 11.8:1 forged pistons on butonpower website and i know the likes of Harris performance and HT racing run high CR's than that!!!

The two lads i was friends with both had flat front mk2 escorts, mint little cars!!! Proper bike chasers, im sure someone on here will chatise me for suggesting a car could chase a bike!!! haha

Oh certainly not on a staright they wouldnt but round here the roads are lovely and twisty and a car is certainly faster round the corners, used to make for good fun on a sunday morning!!! Starts to make me wanna get on fleabay and buy myself summot 'go fast' instead of 'go anywhere' again!!!

Nah one was diamond white the other sunburst orange we used to go to York raceway quite a bit, unfortunately weve all sort of left the car scene for now, other lads have families etc, im sure once they're outa the way we'll get back to driving like idiots, only with slower reactions then!!!

Question is, if you put a battery across them do they get red bloody hot at the tips? They should do.

By the way, the correct torque to tighten glow plugs is surpringly low.
They do NOT need to be rammed down tight. Clean the threads, apply copper-grease, screw in till they bottom-out, and then just nip them tight.

Nae idea CharlesY, just put new ones in instead. If ah do put a battery on them, do ah put -ive on the body and +ive on the top bit where the wire goes on?

Because the glow plug is a simple resistor, and the battery is direct current, it doesn't matter which way you connect the leads.

However, it is always a good idea to connect everything "the right way", and then later in some other job, there will be less chance of connecting something the wrong way. You'll be better at getting it right.

Remember to keep your fingers well clear of the glowplug tips when you apply the leads, as they should be red hot in a couple of seconds.
