Hi i'm new to this forum and also new to owning a landy. I've just bought myself a 1987 2.5td 90 with a ####ed engine, so ive bought myself a 200 disco to steal the engine etc for the conversion.

Just after a bit of advise, I've read through a lot of guides but im just wondering if i need to buy a water hose conversion kit? like this one

DVY 200TDI CONVERSION INTO DEF 90/110 WATERHOSE KIT SPCK224W | eBay

or is it just a waste of money? can i just buy a bottom hose for a factory 200 defender? i see people just cut up old pipes or extend etc which is why I'm asking.

I'm going to buy the inter cooler and exhaust conversion bits and service parts and clutch.

This is probably the start of many questions needing your advice so apologize in advance haha.

Thanks alot Chris

Just extend the old pipes its a waste of money I bought one because I was in a rush to get the conversion done and was fairly annoyed when I unpacked the kit and all they really did was give you extensions

Yeah i thought that was all it was, seams very expensive for what it is. what about the bottom hose for the factory 200tdi? worth buying one of those? only 12 quid on paddock spares?

All I got was ;

New clutch
Intercooler pipes
Exhaust set up.

There have been a few threads on best way to do it. Langers did a great one which I used as the basis for mine.

You will have one issue to resolve and a lot of people do it different ways. Basically the td airbox has to come out as it is in the way of the new pipes. You will want to keep the discovery airbox.

Ok cool sounds cheaper to me haha, I'm going to change belts and serviceable parts while its out. Didnt know about the air box though, i plan on keeping the disco until im all up and running in case i need anything else. Im based in Swindon, Wiltshire

If you use the oil filter housing off the td engine and the pipes you won't need to get new ones made.

Also worth getting a length of fuel hose as yours will be a matter of inches too short.

Ok cool, just about to order a new oil filter, so shall i order one for the 2.5td instead of the 200? Thanks ive got that printed out ready to go haha. is fuel hose a standard size?
Thanks for your help

I think you still go with 200tdi from recollection.

On the fuel pipe not sure friend sorted it for me. Obviously you take the fuel filter and housing from the disco too.

On the notes I think it says about moving the clutch pipes. Def do it! Had to remove engine again as the exhaust snags the pipe. Just a matter of moving 20mm

sweet cheers pal, just ordered the stuff, will just pick up some fuel pipe from halfrauds or something when i know what size and i will make sure i move those pipes, only plan on fitting it the once

Im in the process of doing the conversion now, and like Al, I need to remove the engine again for a couple of reasons, one being the clutch pipe.

When you fit the new downpipe (did you get steve parker kit?), you would be well advised to replace the mounting studs with M10 x 25mm bolts, because the studs are so long that the downpipe cannot be removed when the engine is in situ! Now that another starter motor has given up, I need to move the engine to replace the studs so that I can fit bolts, and also get the starter out!

Oh, and the fuel pipe you need has an inner diameter of 8mm. I got mine from halfords, it is on the shelf stock. I actually needed 2 packs, as I replaced the pipe from the top of the rad to the coolant reservoir, and found that my leftovers from one packet were an inch too short!

Best of luck with it!

Tom

Seems to have done, but I cant quite get it out to have a look.

Everytime I try to turn the key I get a lot of smoke, so I think the brushes might have had it! Im going to take it out and have a poke around and see!

Have you found a way of removing your downpipe in situ?

Not got as far as the air filter yet! Starter died before I got that far! Bench tested the motor before I dropped it in as well and all was well!
Sods law!

Typical! If you text me a location I could pop over this weekend. I fitted my starter with bolts. Exhaust too. Mainly cos I bolloxed thread on old exhaust removing it. You can see my airbox set up.

It might pay Chris to take a look at a conversion too. Not entirely happy with my piping for airbox. Might use pipe bender to make a single piece from by the turbo to the airbox out of stainless. I could probably make intercooler pipes too.

Evening guys, i haven't ordered the exhaust kit yet. was looking at one on ebay, i do love ebay haha its this one

discovery 200tdi into defender 90/110 conversion kit | eBay

Thanks for the advice i will get myself some bolts, are they the same size for the starter as well? I looked at the heavy duty clutch release arm, thought it just looked like the standard one with a little plate welded across the top so planned on doing that, but for 13 quid i might as well get one.

Whats the best place to buy waxoil? guessing it just brushes on
