hi crowblind seen ur job done and im really impressed.. I am going to do a rebuilt of my 90 next summer and am collecting some tips to make it easier any help most appreciated...
do you still need to connect your fuel sender wire??/
 
ok i will try to trace it up for u but can you give me the exact place you have the plug at for ex ...do you need to connect the wires to the sender or the wires from the sender to somwhere else??

can you help me find some one who sells bulkheads not that expensive. i am from gozo malta and unfortunatelly some parts are not that cheap like in england but fortunatelly ive got a friend who spends some time in cardiff and he uses to bring construction machinery to malta eevery now and then so maybe i can bring a galv chassis if myn is not rotten and a galv bulkhead so that i can swap all the bits and pieces:p

Need to connect wires on the bulkhead, have pm`d` you about chassis and bulkhead.

Gotta say, I'm new to the site, but this has got to be my favourite thread by far. This has really given me food for thought - something to plan for the future! Nice one - thanks very much for sharing.

Hi again all.
Just thought i`d put an update on.
Purchased 300tdi disco axle, well actually got it free,Gotta now the right people:D Cleaned the calipers up and repainted red to match fronts(boy racer in me:p)
Paid a mate £30 to sand blast it, and have ordered new springs, gas shocks, flange conversion kit, new mud deflectors and makin up a new set of brake pipes, think the paints comin tomorrow so maybe will have it in primer this weekend.Heres a few pics of the job in hand!!!!:)

crowblind great thread, loads of info to help with such a project. would you know if you can fit a 94 defender body etc. onto a pre 1980 series 3 chassis without too much butchering. will be tax exempt/classis insurance when done. thinking of using a richards chassis and hope he stamps an irish regd. pre 80 chassis no for me. thanks and hopefully you'll light the way on a few questions in the future. no prob if you've had enough at this stage. we all understand eamonn
 
Paint arrived today, so got stuck in applying 3 coats of Black 2 pack gloss enamel, had to evacuate the workshop for 20 minutes whilst the fumes cleared:) Also fitted de carbon gas steering damper, which has improved the steering immensely, the old armstrong unit being well past its best.

Finally managed to fit axle today.Everything went smoothly until it came to renew the a frame joint, tried for many a while to get this out to no avail, so out came the oxy-acet to heat it up, ground the lugs off where the 2 bolt holes are and put on top of the vice and smacked it with a hammer and came out a treat.Put new ball joint in and dropped in a bucket of cold water to cool.Connected up the super gas shocks, hd springs, rear trailin arms and finally the brakes and bled them through.Fitted mud shields and wheels...job done.
Did all this at my bro in laws tyre garage and must say the four post lift made the job alot easier.Road tested , and wow, i now have brakes that will stop on a pin.Ride is way smoother with shocks and new springs. All in all well chuffed with the outcome:):):)
