200tdi Chassis Swap

Cheers diver I'll bear that in mind next time I'm messing about drilling holes etc.
Dont boats have sacrificial anodes that prevent corrosion elsewhere? Could they be fitted to a landy chassis and work in the same way? Or am I being a complete knob?

Ive also had this thought. If chemistry works as it should, you should just be able to bolt on a block of zinc and replace it every time it gets too corroded.

Sacrificial anodes work on boats because the whole thing is immersed in water and the charged partices actually flow through the water. You can get an active anode system. Works on the same principle but is powered. They use them on vehicles used around salt mines where there is a really bad corrosion problem.
If you just bolt on a block of zinc, it won't solve the problem,because you need another different metal to act as a sacrificial anode. And offhand, I can't remember which way you have to go on the electrochemical scale to work it out.
To protect aluminium for example, you use zinc anodes in seawater, magnesium in fresh water and for some reason I've never quite understood, aluminium anodes in brackish water. It's all a bit of a black art.

engine and gearbox out in one with a little help from the works manitou tele-handler, chassis completely stripped, gotta clean everythin` now and paint and re-bush with polybush kit, this is quite easy so far, will have to post some pics when i suss out how!!!! taken around 20 hours to get this far.

just an update,stripped everthin` and degreased and cleaned all parts,wire cup brushed everything possible and burnt all bushes out of everything, painted everything except the rear axle as i have a little work to do on this as the spring plate clamp bolts decided to shear as i removed them for cleaning and painting.painted most parts with copious amounts of good ole hammerite..everythin` black bar the springs which are yellow to match my bushes. startin reassembly tomorrow, anyone who is thinkin about doin a re-chassis just do it it aint so hard, i`m doin mine with the help of my father in law and niether of us has ever done owt like this before.

Its too tempting, i think im gona do it. Have you replaced your bulkhead as well, or have you taken it off with the body?

have replaced the bulkhead, got one off a 55 plate td5 for 95 squid, the guy had loads to choose from, got my front axle on today and new shocks installed,found a place for all the bits quite cheap.

Ok, so you've got the lovely wiring to do too! Im currently looking at modifying a TD5 chassis as there near half the price, and using a new TD5 bulkhead aswell. Im just worried about bits lining up, like the fuel tank, brake lines, bodywork, most of it in fact.

i think the td5 chassis has the fuel tank at the rear as opposed to the side, also the engine and gearbox mounts have to be moved, but it is possible, the guy im havin my bits off does em for 635 squidz and bulkhead for 95

Ready for engine and gearbox, and our home made spring compressors to get back shox connected with my 14 stone standin` on top!!!!

Thats looking real nice there Crowblind. The fork lift looks like a handy bit of kit! As for re-chassing, this looks like a full rebuild, new suspension and turrets all round i see, its a massive improvment.

Im in a dilemer, i can afford to do it if i can fit a TD5 chassis, but not if i have to spend £1500 on a 200tdi one. If you could send me a contact number of the guy you got yours from that would be brilliant, as my bulk head sorce has run out of bulk heads!

ENGINE AND GEARBOX IN!!!HOORAHH

startin the transfer of the gubbins off old bulkhead to new bulkhead tomorrow, rewrapped the loom today and fed through the chassis using some coax cable to pull it through, and reattached brake lines using goodrich braided hoses!!!

oh no the dreaded bulkhead swap!!!!!!

I can see why you chose to change the bulk head. That doesent look like much fun.

this is by far the hardest work to do in a chassis/bulkhead swap, its taken me about 9 hours so far on my own to do the dash/ loom swap to the donor bulkhead, very tedious when you havent done it before!!!!!
