Hi everyone,
I've been looking for a way of moving the alternator on my 110 to the other side of my engine so it will be above the injection pump. It is a discovery 200tdi engine and the reason I want to move it is that the current set up is very tight with the intercooler pipe, pas pipes and brake pipe. If I can move the alternator to the other side of the engine that would solve all on my problems and make it a much better set up.
Does anyone know of a bracket that will allow me to mount it and use the existing belt set up just with a longer v belt?

Thanks

Yeah I did see that kit thanks. Only problem is that I don't have a double v crankshaft pulley or an air con idler and tensioner. By the time I add them to the price of the kit it is going to be £200+

I made a mount for mine and added a pulley to the water pump. Probably not good for the water pump bearing but that gets replaced every. 2-3years as standard so hey ho

Thanks for the feedback. After a bit of head scratching I have come up with a slightly different set up to anything else I have seen. I am using the same pulley from the power steering pump and I have made a bracket to mount the alternator on top of the timing case where the air con pump could be. Belt will be here tomorrow but it all looks to be just perfect at the moment. Might just make a small wrap around shield for the bypass hose but we will see what it's like with the belt

I will put some more pictures up later once I have the belt fitted. Took me hours to get just the right height and positioning but I think it's just right now. Well worth doing for anyone running a 200tdi conversion

So I'm very aware this thread is eight years old, but for me it's still very relavant as I had the same problem as the OP until I came across this old post and got inspired. So thought I'd post my take on Greenlanebasher's design.

With the exception of a new belt I tried to use material I had lying around so mine is slightly different in that it uses 10mm aluminium plate with some 25mm round bar welded straight to it, bolted up with some stainless 3/8 UNC x 1" screws. The nice bit about this is I can leave it unpainted like the standard mount and it gives me a nice earth path without the need for an earthing wire.

Although it works fine and I'm happy with it, I do wish I had made the mount slightly taller like the OP did. It does clear the waterpump even when running but I'd be happier with a bigger gap. I was just paranoind about bonnet clearance when I was eyeballing it into place. However final result is it runs smooth and gives loads of room for boost / PAS hose routing.

Thanks to the OP for the inspiration.
