2007 L322 power drain resolved

Hello peoples

Not been on here for a while, it seems to have been up, work, bed, repeat for the last few months........ Anywho, I've had a serious power drain on my 322 for the last 6 or so months where the battery would go from fully charged to 7.6v within a few hours! Checked every fuse, researched all the usual suspects, replaced various non expensive bits............ Turns out it was the Harman Kardon amp in the boot! Now I said earlier that I checked every fuse, well the amp fuse was pulling 100 milliamps so originally I just pulled the fuse, when it made no difference I assumed that this wasn't the problem... I fully confess that I am worse then unless when it comes to auto electrics which is why its probably taken me so long to find the problem. So pulled the amp out and now all seems to be behaving itself.. Thought it was worth posting in case it helps someone else.. Now I just need to find a new amp or someone reliable to repair this one.. anyone?
 
how do you know it was the amp if pulling the fuse made no difference?
Hi Kermit..... Don't do that to me....! Erm, I have assumed (maybe wrongly) that by removing the amp and nothing else that the amp is the culprit?? The fuse is now pulling .03 as opposed to .10.. soooooo? In all honesty I'm just glad I don't have to jump her every bloody time which for the moment is a win... What are you thinking? What else do you think it could? Any way of checking the amp? Bearing in mind that I believe all electronics is witchcraft.
 
Sounds like it could be the result of the typical water ingress.
Hi Datatek, how's you? Yes I think you're right, there were signs that moisture had been present. This all started after she was parked up for a few months while I deliberated over what to do about a tranny issue, sitting vehicles up never does them any good, I think she just got damp
 
i wanted to make sure you weren't measuring voltage drop, rather than actual amps, without asking leading questions :)
water ingress is a known issue and if you can see evidence then sounds very likely :(
 
Sorry to do this to you but. May not be relevant to the 2007 but I think some subwoofer amps plug into the HK amp so maybe drawing current from the amp.
 
2002 on, no reference to touch screen so that may differ again.

Thanks Kermit, genuinely appreciate you're input.. Can you advise on any other tests I should do before replacing the amp?
 
Does it otherwise work? I'm not an expert but if it does then maybe something else isn't cutting the power like it should do? Not sure how that bit works but the head unit must send some kind of wake/sleep signal?

Yes, all except the multi changer not being able to read the discs.

When you say you pulled the amp out, what did you actually do? I’m going to try this later on my car so just want some instructions please ;) thanks
