My 2004 td5 with 130k miles had suddenly developed a problem . It is down on power when engine is under load and missfiring and it a real pig to start and even after priming sequence still not easy to start .

It all suddenly started yesterday and was driven local to me down a duel caridgeway the day before at 70 with no loss of power issues .

It had a new OEM ( VDO seimems ) pump 4 months ago and a new set of fuel lines in the boot due to a hole . A new FPR rebuilt with a Bosch one and a new fuel filter yesterday .

Any ideas where to start ? Heard injector seals can be an issue along with fuel filter heads ?

Amy thinking its a possibility being the seals being a pain to start , if was just fuel run back issue I would say take a stab at a new filter head .

Cheers all .

Sounds exactly the same as when my injector loom failed is it showing any fault codes?

Think it was only £30 or so.

Mine was clean, no idea of age though. There were some saying at the time that the non oem leads didn’t last but I didn’t have the car long enough to confirm or deny.

No codes may rule it out though of course.

certainly worth a go changing it , I Still have my original but loud pump so may put that in . what says to me it's more fuel because it's a pain to start untill fuel pressure builds up . I'm thinking worth a go with the pump just swap and see the difference .

one in there wasn't a cheapie and around £300

loom is around 9 months old and clean. no fault codes either .
Probably injector seals, make sure you use genuine ones. Unless you are very good with spanners I would pay someone to do it. Parts are pretty cheap and it's not a big job to someone who knows how to do it.

I was thinking that myself , and genuine kit is around £45 . Yes no problems doing it myself just thought ask on here for other ideas or anyone had same symptoms in past .

I did, changed everything - loom, fuel pump, filter head, glowplugs and pipes to tank. All this made virtually no difference. Once the seals were done it ran really well until a tree fell on it in Storm Doris:eek:

oh dear !

thing is mine doesn't hardly drive get to 30 to 35 if your lucky . no diesel in sump either

I didn't have any diesel in the sump either, just virtually no acceleration, very poor starting and random cutting out.

Well I have replaced all seals and washers with genuine ,a new loom a MAF and 1 injector as showing MAF and miss fire on number 3 . since doing its almost missing on idle and feels low on power over 2500 or slow to get there and once around 70mph really struggling to get any more .

Any ideas where to go ? All parts was OEM or genuine .

cheers
