i'm quite lucky as i live close enough to island 4x4 to go and pick stuff up i need during the week while i am out working

the gauge is weird, seen many posts with the same issue and after changing the stat, some cure themselves, there is a post on here where the guy drove it for a bit and it fixed itself others change the sender, some drain and refill, i think it might be an airlock in the stat housing but as you say i coul have shorted something changing the pump.

i could really do without taking it all of again but at least it would be quicker the next time around:(

just to conclude this thread as well, the allcomms showed up faults on the M62 engine module as faulty electronic thermostat and temperature sensor, cleared them both and the gauge returned to normal instantly and so far is all good

i may come back here when its time to do the vanos and valve chain guides...
thanks for everyone's help

the saga continues.........:)

Depending on the diagnosis on my overheating issue currently, if it turns out to be head gaskets I will be detailing the work, and this will include timing chains, guides and VANOS timing!

Kit for all the chains, guides and gaskets (not including head gaskets) comes in at around £600 so is not a cheap option.

Got a combustion test kit coming tomorrow so i will update once i have done the sniff test S to whether there is a potential of a huge how to and an even larger hole in my wallet coming!!

well lets hope its not the headgaskets!
when i first looked for an L322 a friend of mine who has been working on landys for ever basically, although tends to shy away from the newer ones, advised me to stay away from LPG due to them running hotter and can cause overheating issues but not sure how true that is.

The money you save from having LPG would probably buy you a new engine anyway.
When i flapped recently and thought my chain guides had gone, after researching for a while the task of doing the guides and rebuilding the vanos wasn't as daunting as i first thought although still very involved.

i am very glad i am not doing mine yet though.

Are you doing the Beisan vanos rebuild using the kit below?

They also sell the vanos compression tool and extra seal and i think the whole lot is about 100 dollars and they ship to the uk, got a really quick response to the email i sent him.

The link below is a pretty good explanation on the guides without many special tools and i also found a uk company that will rent out the special timing tools if you need them. if you go that far i'll dig out all my research mate.

That'll be grand, been reading up on the timing processes etc.

I have a very handy machinist at work, so if I have to do the gaskets and timing chains etc. I was going to see if I can get him to make me a bespoke set of Camshaft locking tools and VANOS sensor plate holding tools if possible.

If you could dig it out I would appreciate it...even if I am fortunate to not to have to do it, still would like to research!

haha, i nearly sent you back the link you sent me at the beginning of the thread, also the ones from charlie are pretty good also after your post with the pic on it.
i'm going around in circles, been a busy week and the usual range rover rollercoaster ride of emotions:D
