2003 4.4 HSE alarm woes

The problem was that the key internals were totally knackered and beyond any sort of repair, so they couldn't put the old internals into a new fob/key.
The only option was a complete new key & fob, and as I said I was told that an OEM one can be supplied pre-programmed and it will work right out of the box, but they're not cheap, £400 is the cheapest quote I got for a genuine Landrover one.

It’s worth asking the person mentioned, as the key may still be able to be cloned.

Let mrsporty have a look. I was told mine was knackered but he repaired it and it still works 31/2 years later
 
+1 I’ve that fails you can get a cloned one now from them companies that come out ive you lose your key my neighbour he’d his merc keys replaced

Try a different dealer. My last one was £165 but that was 10 years ago. They come from Germany so Brexit will have added a bit.
