2002 TD6 anti freeze

Hi guys, yes i know its been up before ! but did we ever agree on what anti freeze this engine should use ? LR and BMW did an update at some point ? some say blue some say red some say silicate some say OAT some say not some say G48 !

So my mind and brain whats left is going boom !

Are they alloy block or not ?

Any info thanked for in advance and hope this thread helps others as well.
 
It's always a good question. I use two types even though they are universal. Pink or yellow. I usually use the pink in bmws and vw/audis. The yellow in citroen and renault.
I've used pink in mercedes before without issues. My own p38 runs with pink and never an issue there either. Just don't mix types 👍

I'm sure I've read somewhere, it's all backwards compatible.. new stuff comes out to tackle some new issue, but you can use it in older cars no problem.

Can't for the life of me recall where i saw that

The problem is some modern cars have a sensor in the header that checks not just the level of the fluid but the actual mix. Otherwise, any antifreeze with suitable corrosion inhibitors does the job. They are not all compatible with one another.
 
The L322 being one of them.
No they don't its only a magnetic level, 2002-2005 actually use the same sensor as the screenwash level, theyre just a magnetic reed switch ita an on or off circuit,
They never actually come into contact with the coolant either,

Are you sure about that? I seem to remember my mates L322 flagged up a coolant warning when the specific gravity of the coolant was incorrect after he filled up with water after a leak. Could be wrong, old age plays tricks with the memory.

100% my td6 and current 4.2 sc (same bottle as the tdv8s) if you pull the sensor out you can trigger it on and off with a magnet 🤣
 
Coolant cold will have a level,
Coolant at running temperature has a level,
Only way a level will drop when its at temperature is an airlock,
Warm it raises the level slightly if anything not drop,
The difference between min and max is about 30mm on the level stick but the low coolant wont actually trigger till its well below the minimum,

But if the specific gravity is wrong, the float may sink regardless of the level.

According to official Land Rover Technical Service Bulletins issued in September 2003 and March 2005, the low coolant light coming on even when the coolant level is correct if the coolant specific gravity or viscosity is incorrect, causing false readings on the sensor. The correct specific gravity of a 50% coolant mixture of the approved coolants (see below) is 1.07.

Not according to my local indi. When I first got my L322 I had the warning a lot even though the level was correct. Once I increased the concentration the issue went and only came on at 75mph. Since increasing the strength a little more it's fine.
