 hi all, have an x reg 2.5v6,just had the cambelt,oil/filter,autogearbox oil done on the car last month to the tune of £600,2weeks before that somekind of sensor replaced as fault with fans thinking car was hot when cold, cost £200.not happy about forking out that kind of dough in 6 weeks but thats life.NOW my problem is that now there is a noise coming from engine bay, like a ticking(tack, tack, tack) noise when on idle and when driving, which is annoyying me severely, put some halfords thing thats suppose to quiten the engine but not worked.what is it?how much will a specialist charge?can i drive without any problems apart from the noise?asking as i am taking the car over new years to italy, partner doesnt want car to break down over there i dont want to spend the money if i dont have to any help please.

 thanks mad hats,i am new to this what are viz valves or motors never heard of that,is it expensive job?

variable intake valves - fitted in the inlet plenum - driven by motors which get all gunged up by oil. -lr ones are alot - rover ones are cheaper - the rover 75 uses the same KV6 injun.

yup - at least until you have saved £711.64 to get it done:eek:

make absolutely sure you get european wide breakdown cover before yu go.

I assume you donr have a warranty?

no warrenty, but i do have breakdown insurance for the holiday via eurotunnel. fook me £700 odd quid nearly had a heart attack.

It isnt hard to do it yourself. It took me 1 hr to do it. Btw, worth puting an oil catch tank in the breather line. There where the oil comes to the VIS.

Here is the sort of thing - has a visual oil level indicator and a tap to drain oil off.

:( took the car to landrover specialists, the said it was the manifold, something has broken inside it which is causing the rattle, quoted me £600!!! £450 for manifold plus 2 hours labour + vat. been reading the posts here and in the forum that the INLET MANIFOLD from a rover 75 fits, but another post says its not the inlet manifold but the "inlet manifold chamber" that sits on the inlet manifold, WHICH is correct as need to get item asap, when i call the breakers what do i ask for exactly to the letter- many thanks all

i sed that! - just ask for the inlet manifold, viz valves and motors. sometimes they just stick or the motors burn out - it might be worth looking at yours first. If its just the motors - I have a pair here.

hi thanks for offer but i am not competant under the bonnet departmartment, wouldnt know what i am looking for.when ordering the inlet manifold/viz valves/motors i do have to get the rover 75 part for my year of car ie i have a 2001(x) so i have to get the same year rover part?

The part number is exactly the same except that I think ( i have to check) that LR part number has letter L at the end of the part number.

 hi all, looked in partsgateway site for the inlet manifold(viz valves/motors),i thought by reading other posts in the past that it costs around £100-£150, but it came back 2day with qoutes of £350 from the breakers for a used one, thats only £100 cheaper than dealer price(that i have been qouted) does that seem right.

The breakers on these site pay to receive your parts request and tend to be the bigger and more expensive yards. fo the extra £100 you'd be better off buying new. I'd suggest more googling. Sometimes it can take a while but you usually find it if you persevere.

How essential are the viz valves, any sensors connected to them?

Are there any baffles in the plenum?

Some manufacturers restrict the power by having baffles in place, Ford being a known culprit.

the baffles can be drilled out, increasing power, air flow

Hi
Had this problem on my 2001 v6 (sounds like a bad case of timing chain rattle). I know it hasn't got a timing chain, but the bar that connects the the 6 flapper valves wears and breaks off allowing them to rattle around. This is caused by a software problem in the ECU, so get this upgraded before fixing the rattle or it will happen again. It is a free upgrade from Landrover and takes them about 10 mins. Its called an A151 software download. Then get a second hand manifold of a Rover 75 V6 as these didn't have the software problem so the valves in them aren't worn.Whilst the manifold is off, it might be wise to replace all the 'O' rings and seals around the water pump and thermostat housing as mine started leaking there a month or so after replacing the manifold, so I need to take it off again to get to them.
I got my info from [email protected] Did what he said and saved myself alot of money (ACE BLOKE)
