I've managed to sort it:

Found this red cable behind the fuse box; god knows why it was there, checked the fuse on it and that was bust. Swapped it with a new one and everything works:D

No idea why they've put it there, but glad it wasn't the hazard switch or the relay as I would have had to wait days for them.

Thanks for all the input lads!

are the dashlights in the binnacle uprated/brighter than normal by any chance, that is quite a thick gauge wire you holding there...

Not sure as this is my first land rover; the lights in the dash are blue and not very bright really, can hardly read the gauges.

Well.. and now its me! again...

but.. I've only lost my rear left indicator!

for some stupid reason, it stoped working.

Fuses are fine, bulb is fine..
cleaned the contacts and wiggled the wiring behind a bit... but nothing.

still doesnt work...

its like a blizzard outside, so cant even get under and check if there's any broken cable or not.

the relay just clicks really fast, front left indicators still work, just at a faster pace.
all the rest of the stuff works.

hazards dont work, but they werent working before either when everything was working properly

Mine's ****ed (exuse my french) again:mad:
And it's got worse now!

Got in this morning, started it up to let it warm up.
All of a sudden a strong smell of plastic; checked the fuse and it had completely disintegrated:
IMAG0119.jpg

The fuse holder has pretty much melted in half and I'm surprised it didnt catch fire and burned down the 90.

Went to get a box of fuses and blew up another 7 whilst trying all sorts; disconnected the stereo, checked for loose cables, checked the lights, etc.

Found that my rear fog light was not working; pulled the cap of and found it was filled with ice and the light/holder are one rusty block. Scraped all the rust off and got rid of the ice/water and the light works again. Then tried another fuse wich burnt again.

Then had to pick up the missus and found that my radio kept switching on and off:mad2:

Its starting to get on my nerves now (and the missus as I'm grumpy as can be) and I'm running out of ideas.

There's no quick fix, I'm afraid. I think you're going to have to be methodical and work your way through each problem - chances are that fixing one thing will fix other things. Disconnecting as much as possible then connecting one thing at a time, checking it works, then moving on, is how I approach things like this. If you've got 20 different issues and you're trying to solve them all at once, you'll be there forever.

It looks like someone has done some bodging in the past (I've no idea what that big fat cable is for in your Landy - I've got one like it in mine that I put in to feed the power amp!) So be prepared to do some repair work. Get some connectors, a decent set of crimpers, a multimeter, a soldering iron and some heatshrink.

Previous owner's definitly made a mess of it; I found that the big red cable was indicators/dash. For some reason they cut the cables from the fuseboard and used that in instead.

I think I'm going to order a new flasher relay, new hazard switch and a new rear fog light. That way I can at least rule all of them out. I'm sure I'll find other things that need replacing:rolleyes:

Any luck with yours JP?

Nop! no luck at all...

i've cleaned all the contacts on the indicators (they were a bit green).. cleaned the contacts on the rear number plate light, green too...
cleaned contacts on reverse light...

nothing.... fokin left rear indicator still doesnt work!

Im flying out to Portugal for Xmas tomorrow, so I'll try and sort it when I get back next week...

I might end up just running another wire from the front indicator to the back..

update on this one!

my problem with the rear left indicator not working is fixed!

how?

10min into the Salisbury plains, a few bumps around and 2 dips in a water hole.... its working again....lol... like the problem was never there.

im happy with that... next time it stops working I'll just throw a couple of buckets of water at it.. hahahaha

Glad you've got yours sorted mate.
I've ordered a new flasher relay/unit, a new hazard switch and a rear fog light; should hopefully get it through the post this week.

and another update....since the last time i posted, 29th Dec, the indicator has been working fine...

even today it was working fine..
took the 90 to the jetweash, as it was still covered in mud, indicated left to turn to the jetwash... and it was working.

Washed all the mud off......indicator doesnt work again! lol

Doh! Bloody electrics:doh:

Mine's also still playing up! I've replaced the hazard switch and flasher relay.
I had this thought the other day; my indicators have not worked since I had a new fuel pump fitted by my garage:suspicious: This might just be coincidence but I'm running out of things to try and when I looked under the bonnet yesterday I found a loose cable in the engine bay:

IMAG0134.jpg

It's a brown/white cable and I cant figure out where it's meant to go:scratching_chin:

Anyone any ideas?

I have an identical problem to Udo's. Mine is a V reg early TD5 but is farm spec so has no alarm that I'm aware of and no central locking etc. Have the same blown fuse, I don't understand why that fuse effects the dials as it's meant to be for something totally different. Replaced it and the clocks are working again. My hazards and indicators packed up too - none of the relays seem to be marked as a flasher unit either in front of gear lever or under seat. Doesn't have relays behind speedo as it's a pre 2002. My back wiper never worked before anyway but interior light working as usual. Good old British electrics. I too have haynes diagrams with a gap between 96 and 02. Idiots
