2000 Disco 2 Steering wheel Remote control Radio/cruise

Hi new to this forum and just got shot off my old Trooper 3.1TD with 213,000 on the clock and never missed a beat from nearly new. Traded it in for a Disco, but beginning to wonder what I have got myself into after reading all the forum to do with Discoveries.

My question is in regards to the steering wheel remote for the radio and cruise control. Are they supposed to illuminate when the side lights are on.

The Disco is a year 2000 TD5 Auto GS.

Any input would be welcomed.

are ye being serious? do the rest of yer switches light up as well when ye put the side lights on?

Just curious as other vehicles that I have owned with remotes on the Steering have illuminated.

Remember its the first Disco that I have owned and could end up being the last going by the forum.

Maybe if ye made yerself a bit clearer in the first post it might've helped!!! Didnae know if ye meant that they lit up or not Ah take it they don't then? Have ye had a look in yer owners manual? ye might get sum clues there

Just for the record mine is a 2000 td5 gs and mine do not light up

I've never seen any that lit up - sounds like one of those gimmicks they put on Japanese cars to make you hate them enen if they ARE more reliable

If the Disco breaks down at the road side well it will be bye bye to the Disco and hello Japan or Germany.

I never take a fence (well - took one once and wrecked my drag link). Seriously I was thinking of Toyotas - most reliable and capable thing I've come across off road but it's like driving a Ford Escort - all boring and plastic. Troopers are great but isn't the technology just a tad prehistoric?

That's impressive. I'd brag that my bumper was better (it was vee shaped) but I don't have a photo. Mine was snow and a prat in an Escort coming the other way - stupidly I took avoiding action. Better to have let him hit me.

I think I have a left-over steering wheel radio switch if anyone wants one.

I'm not sure WHERE it might be, but I have one somewhere.

Having just fitted cruise to my Discovery, I can say they do not light up...though I have a different stereo so that doesnt work...

I think the OP's attitude to LR is a bit off, Ive just got rid of a Jap 4x4, did 20k in it and have to say the 300 miles ive done in the landy make me wish I'd bought one earlier. If you feel Jap stuff is sooo much better then why buy one that doesnt light up like a christmas tree?
Personally I feel the jap stuff isnt that good, I was in a main dealer for 6 years, they dont like high speed motorway stuff and only a handfull are capable of towing the loads a landy can. Sorry if I offend, but maybe you should have stuck with a far east manufacturer, then when something goes wrong its impossible to find a specialist.

The mother of all 4x4's has always been the Land Rover and everybody else has just copied it. I like the Discovery especially when you do not feel the sudden thump of speed humps with the air suspension compared to the Jap 4x4 or should I say 2x4 as most do not have full time 4 wheel drive.
But my auld Trooper 3.1 never let me down compared some 4x4 that lay at the road side awaiting a tow truck, so now I decided to try the Disco and it does appeal to me and the kids like all the special things such as the head sets in the rear to listen to CD's and more head room and sitting higher in the rear seat similiar to my Frontera Sport I had years ago.
So only time will tell with regular servicing and God forbid if the 2 sunroofs leak, which have not leaked so far I may consider upgrading to a newer Disco next year.

Not strictly true is it though? Seeing as the original LR was copied from a willys jeep. admittedly the LR was made a hell of a lot stronger and better designed. So if the LR is the Mother of all 4x4's, then the grandmother of all 4x4's is the Jeep.

aye but the original landcruiser was both better and more reliable and if yer dunt beleive me, ask the aussies
