Morning all,

I put a new HU in my Disco but now have poorer radio reception and no AM. I understand that the second aerial is an amplified one but I wasn't sure how to connect it as well as the standard one.

Does anyone know how to connect both to an after market HU? Is there an adapter or anything like that?

Cheers

Will

Thanks for the reply, only 1 fit, the other has a slightly larger male connection. It's probably the other that will give the stronger signal as currently as the signal drops constantly.

I have fitted an aftermarket HU
I only saw a normal aerial plug which works fine.
good reception on radio 2 even with the aerial down :)
The only other plug was the amp which I made a lead for .

???

I think the later models had the aerials fitted in the glass of the rear windows, looks a bit like heated glass. Mine has a wire going through the middle both rear windows.

Yes, there are two aerials on the Disco, one for FM and the other for AM (long wave and medium wave). Each is run down the middle of the rear windows, I think the FM is on the offside and the AM on the nearside windows. Each has its own amplifier above the headlining.

The standards for domestic radio equipment recommends 75 ohm for aerial feeders and loadings. (it's 50 ohm for communications equipment incl CB stuff.)

The easiest thing to try and it's a cheap little unit would be to get hold of a TV aerial splitter/combiner, change the connectors on the cables for the Belling-Lee TV type coax plugs and try it.

The Harmon Kardon Alpine head unit does indeed have two ariels, one is smaller than the standard type I think,I temporaliy fitted a normal head unit in mine using just one ariel wire and it worked fine but I think the antenna booster has to be fed with the electric ariel feed on the head unit to work

Mine is a disco 1. I take it the two aerials are on disco 2's ?

Disco 2's had the two aerials when the Harmon Kardon unit was fitted, aka 'High End Audio System'.

Our D2 is 1998 build ans had both aerials and the H-K unit.
