A new place has opened herevthis week - Perry European. Apparently the fellow is a LR 'Expert' I'll make contact tomorrow. It would be a hell of a coincidence if it was the ABS pump thingamajig.

Oddly enough I was driving it this afternoon and noticed that the speedo wavers a bit. At about 80kmh it dips to about 75 then rises again to 80. Not seen that before.
Wonder if 1 of the plugs on the ABS ECU under the seat has come loose? It might have permanently lost a sensor or 2 and is flickering others so it loses the road speed?

Depends, if you have a look under your brake pedal, if it looks like the one in your picture you don't need the modified loom. If it looks like a mini asthma inhaler then you will.
To remove you need to unplug the Loom and twist the switch to remove. To fit the new one, press the brake pedal down with one hand and twist the new switch in (line up the hole with the 2 prongs on the switch). Once fitted, release the brake pedal and you'll hear some clicking as the plunger sets itself. Plug the Loom in and hopefully problem solved. Access is tricky and you won't have great access to see what you're doing so you'll have to feel your way around a little bit. 👍
Thanks for advice, removal was easier than I anticipated!
I took the switch to pieces and the points carrier on the central moulded plastic was out of alignment due to plastic melting. I will order a modified switch and loom from Island 4 x 4, fit and report back.
Is it easier when refitting to attach the loom to the switch before fitting the switch to the bracket?

Hello G, So now I'm down to one warning lamp - the HDC. The other two were sorted by me gently twisting in the ABS sensor just a wee bit more. HDC had a broken wire under the g'lever's rubber boot. Fixed but that lamp is still lit. I'm not that confident about that small plug and socket which is attached to the HDC switch assembly so I may well remove it and put another connector in its place.

Hiya buddy. Hope the summer flood of tourists aren't impacting life to much for you in Central. I met up with a bloke a few weeks ago in Tekapo who does a lot of work for us down your way, lovely fella who's really good at his job with caravans and campers. He's got a workshop in Mount Pisa. He'll often meet people in Cromwell to fix problems on vans.

Cool that you are winning the shoot out with the Amigos. I think the wire(s) have fallen off most HDC switches where they are on the gearstick, but if I'm right it is just a simple switch and the ECU could not tell if it was broken or not. You have to look to other parts that the HDC utilises which the ABS and TC do not. The obvious being the 1st and reverse gear switches, they may be indicating an implausible value, eg both on. Do the ABS and TC utilise the accelerator peddle electrics? Obviously the engine does, but is there a fault in there somewhere?

If the ABS light goes out, but the HDC stays on, is that a WOF fail? Shouldn't be, but you never know.

WoF fail - hell I hope not. I have replaced those two switches. I had to put two washers under the rev' switch as without them the rev lights and rev camera were on all the time. Both seem to work fine now. Brake lights work fine so I don't suspect that switch - I got a replacement just-in-case. I'm away from home at the mo' but will get on the case again on Thursday.
