2.8 suzy engine in defender

hi, ive got a 1990 90 with a 2.8 isuzu engine fitted, LT77 gearbox and im told its got a rangey transfer box, it pulls like a train but the only problem is that she'll only do about 55 fairly flat out, i can get it upto about 65 downhill but thats starting to push it, so my question is that could anyone tell me what i could do to make her go a bit faster, possibly a different transfer box or different diffs ? any help would be much appreciated, cheers, mat.

You could look at a different transfer box - all depends on the ratios of your transfer box and diffs

Disco tranny but won't make a huge difference

Id bet it hasnt got a rr transfer box, have a look at it and check the ratio.
If you was very lucky the early rr lt230 had a 1:1 ratio but are very hard to find

early suffix b was crap, it had an oil way update to try and stop main gearbox output shaft spline wear.

You also can't put the cross drilled gear in suffix b as teeth are narrower

I have a spare (I am keeping it) RRC tranny box not sure of the ratio tho but seems very close to disco one, and the speedo fits in it

Ashcroft do a 1:1 gear set for the lt230

cheers for the help, im going to try and get a 1.222 transfer and see how that affects it or a 1.003 and if anyone has one they would like to sell then i would certainly be intrested, cheers
