hola everyone just a quick question has anyone ever converted a 2.5 na into a turbo one just for a bit more power , i assume its a bit more involved than swapping the manifolds and popping a turbo on . is it a different block or just a beefed up version . thanks darren

pistons are coated on td to cope with burn temp ,blocks are different in that td has oil feed and drain on turbo side ,although later replacement block came with these blanked, exhaust valves are thicker too ,there is a oil feed adapter fits into oil filter housing so it is possible ,just your pistons wouldnt last long

I stand to be correct by those who know better but wasn't the turbo charging of the original block an unmitigated disaster by Landrover and forced them to do a lot of modifications. Cracked blocks etc?

Yes it was but it all depends on the particular engine you have, i had a 2.5dt 90 which i think was the best engine ive had i had absolutely no problems with it just as long as you service them properly and keep an eye on them they are fine, if you use and abuse them yes they will go bang

cracked pistons ,saw very little cracked blocks, they later coated piston crowns that helped but even so bores as earlier engines could be prone to wear, the same lubrication for bores is used on 200 and 300s and they have good much better bores /rings

exhaust valves are actually made up of a different metallurgical compound to cope with the turbo and higher exhaust gas temperatures, you would be better off fitting a 200 tdi !!
