Pick an m51 up for few hundred quid then work on the v8 while it’s out. Would more than cover the cost when fixed.
m51?
Once the v8 is out it will remain out unfortunately, I’m beyond complicated mechanical work and will need to have the work done by someone competent and experienced, I thought ECU was something to do with Brexitif it’s not NA I’m lost.
Just trying to establish what diesel to fit.

Bought one a couple of years ago absolutely mint, 63 genuine miles and FSH but it looks like the engine liners are knackered after less than 5k.just spent a wad on getting the EAS refurbished a month before.
Having a few more checks to make sure it is the linings and if it is? then will defy loads of advice to ’scrap it’ and will probably looking to put the 2.5 diesel in.

I would talk to v8 developments before doing that. Only one way to be sure it is a liner. I thought all the dodgy ones had already dropped.

The diesel will "fit" but it will require fettling as it is a different shape and some parts on the v8 will need taking off or replacing. Plus, depending on the gearbox you have it might require a fiddle. Some are plug and play and some aren't.

V8 developments ?
Bought it 5 years ago and it was flawless but after my wife took Ill it was hardly used for about 3 years, she found it difficult climbing in and out, but since she got better and we started using it again it started to develop problems, headliner started to sag, EAS needed renewing etc but I love the old sod and was prepared to spend money on it (still am) but I’m looking at the long term and the Thor with its LPG conversion just looks too complicated.
And as I’m getting a diesel disco it seems simpler to convert the RR to the same fuel.

Loses about half a litre of water of water every thirty/forty miles, can’t find any leaks, no damp carpets, oil is fine exhaust is fine, running perfectly except got this continuous leak, but it means I can’t go very far without the fear of serious overheating?

If its head gasket and the coolant is going in the cylinders have you checked the spark plugs as that will steam clean the on in the dodgy cylinder
i would be looking at putting a pressure test on the cooling side with some dye in there and looking for the tell tail signs it could be a leak that is being evaporated before it drips

+1. UV dye in coolant and then check dip-stick with UV torch off the Bay. If dipstick lights up then head-gasket. Not a bad job but with all the rusty bolts you will encounter it will take a weekend of slow methodical progress.

Have sent away for the testing kit, cheers.

Have you a link re pressure testing? Always thought it was a garage job?

Done, much obliged.
Either Head gasket or an external water leak and the water is evaporating on the hot motor..

If its burning it check the plugs if you get issue with 7-8-2-1 they you have a Headgasket issue, however if you get issue with 6-5-4-3 then you have a Liner issue..

But I doubt you have a liner issue because any water that gets through the block wicks down to the sump.
