1st time owner needs help!

Can anyone help me. I drive an 02 plate 1.8 Freelander that I absolutly love except for 1 problem!
Over a month ago my gears started to play up whilst sitting in traffic. I had to struggle to get it into 1st and 2nd. When the engine was cold all was great. I had the slave cylinder replaced....still did it......I had a complete new clutch system....still did it.....I had my gear box oil replaced ......and it's still doing it. It's fine and has smooth gear change right up until I sit in traffic and then the struggle begins.Can anyone help nefore my hubby tells me to scrap her......I love my landy to bits.
 
How is it a struggle? Will it not go in - does it crunch? Does the clutch not go down far enough? If you turn the engine off, will it then go in ok...?
 
Clutch goes down fine but I have to keep pushing the gear stick really hard and eventually it will go in. No crunching at all just doesn't want to go into 1st or 2nd. Other gears are fine although it sometimes refuses to go into reverse but only if I've been sitting in traffic and car is hot!!

have you had master cylinder replaced
 
I have just left my car running and notice the fan is not kicking in. Thermostat shows mid range but engine area is sweltering I wonder if this is causing the problem as maybe expanding metal in gear box??????
