Check the bloody timing, it's easy enough to do.

What color is the smoke coming out the back ?
Black is over fueling (but generally only when running)
Blue is burning oil (engine oil not diesel oil)
White is unburnt fuel, I suspect this is what you have.

Now if the cam belt has slipped the timing will be out, it maybe out just enough to stop it starting due to lack of compression or fuel being injected at the wrong time.

There's been quite a few threads on here about 300tdi's not starting, and quite a few of them have been down to timing.

It's very unlikely that you have lost compression in all cylinders overnight, and if one or two had low compression it would still fire or try to.

Like a white to grey colour.
Ive never done anything to do with timing before so its a bit scary haha ill see what i can do. Arranged for a local mechanic to come and do a compression test when hes next free if it comes to that

That'll be unburt fuel then.
So as suspected earlier fuel is getting to the cylinders and it's getting compressed, but either not enough to ignite or at the wrong time to ignite.

Checked under the rocker cover and everything is fine.
Im gonna have a go at the timing on Mon when im off so any tips and advice would be gratefully recieved.
I dont have the timing tools so are they a neccessity or can i make do without. They look like pins from what ive been looking at so maybe drill bits or scribers etc instead????

No gaskets needed, the flywheel locking pin goes in the bell housing drain hole, and the blanking plate for the pump has no gasket (unless it has a breather fitted).

If your gana have loss of compression a blown head gasket is the easiest to fix. (apart from valve clearances).

Taking the head to be skimmed today the gasket set should arrive tomorrow then ill let you all know if it starts when its done fingers crossed. MOT is out tomorrow
