1995 300tdi - MoT failure

I'm selling my Disco as the scrap value is too low  and others have advised to 'break' it myself. As I don't really have the time for that I would rather it went as a whole (less a few bits already removed).

I'm open to sensible offers (I don't eat chocolate or crisps  )

If no interest as a whole I may consider 'breaking' it but if you want something you will have to remove it yourself after a sensible price has been agreed.

Disco details -

1995 300tdi Green 7 Seater

Up until the MoT everything was running fine, just had a few bits done - filters (oil & air), one injector sorted as was blowing, rear bearings inc o/s stub axle.

MoT failures - rear exhaust corroded (at rear box), sills corroded, rear outrigger corroded -- all areas are marked up if anyone wants to check what may be required to sort

Any questions / offers PM me :)

I will try to add some more info and possibly pics asap.

No MoT or Tax - currently SORN

Sorry but not going to divulge location on an open forum (any closer than what's on my profile), I know I want rid but I don't want a thieving bast... having it :(

Really not sure re cost  I don't plan on giving it away which is why I don't want to scrap it

I totally understand your predicament but you are on to a sticky one here as sentimentality will not do you any favours. With no TAX or MOT it is not worth anything more than scrap really. To get the most out of your car you will have to break it.

Without knowing any details of the running gear the details the engine as a whole could be worth about £300+ if it's ready to take away so I would imagine that you might be able to get that for the whole car as it is. But I doubt you will get much more as a reasonable 300Tdi Discovery is worth between £700 and £1200 if it's got TAX and MOT so by my rubbish calculations someone will have to be paying less than £400 in labour to get it MOT'd on top of the price of your car to want to buy it (and excluding the TAX cost). So unless they can do the work themselves is going to be hard to do (potentially).

Cheers for the input :)

I've already replaced it with another one so I'm now hoping maybe someone will take it as a project (possible trayback conversion) or they are in the business and will only break it themselves

I really should put some more details up...

The problem is there are hundreds of MOT failure Discovery's out there and a lot are owned by people who not enthusiasts and just want them gone. So you need to find someone who is on the lookout for a rotten Discovery for a project who is willing to pay top price for an MOT failure. Could happen, but is more than likely unlikely.

If it were me and someone offered me £300 I would be happy with that. Well, not happy but it is what it is.

Or

I know you don't want to break it but hire or borrow an engine hoist, remove the engine and weigh in what is left. You should get around £150 for the shell and gearbox, or near me there is a company that will come and take your car away for a minimum of £100 so there might be a company like that near you? Then sell the engine for £300+ ready to go.
