I managed to get under the truck to grease the props and track rod ends yesterday. Looking at the swivels they need replacing, so;

The ones I have seen all seam to be Britpart, but with all I have read on here about Britpart I don't know how good these will be. Any opinions welcome or alternatives, or perhaps additions/replacements for any of the components?

Also, if they are going, is it likely other items will need doing at the same time (or worth doing whilst it is stripped down)? I don't want everything stripped to find out I need something else in the middle of doing it?

And do you fill with oil or the one shot grease?

The wisdom of your experiences will be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Mick

So long as the chrome is nice and smooth and everything fits nicely, the make is not the end of the world.
Grease is the way to go, I like oil, but it wll leak sooner or later!
Most of the kits come will all the bits you will need.

Bolts that hold ball to axle can be toss pots to undo, mainly due to their limited access.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you know if the seals in these kits are up to the job? It looks like a few hours work for a novice like me, so I don't want to fit things that may well fail ahead of time.

Mine has been on there a few years now.
Iirc the ball was teflon coated rather than chrome, Corteco seals are good.

The BP swivels are very good.
Before I replaced mine several years ago I contacted a few workshops to see what swivels they actually fit rather than the parts desk to se which ones they sell. All said they fitted the BP swivels and had not had any comebacks.
Based on this I bought & fitted a pair of BP swivels kits and they were perfect giving years of excellent service.

Took me about 6 hrs to do my first swivel rebuild (1 x swivel! )Most of that was spent cleaning years of rust and grease and gaskets from all the parts, rebuilding is quite straightforward when it’s all clean.
