1990 Land rover 110 19j Diesel Chassis upgrade Services

Alright there Everyone
My 1990 110 chassis has an old rusted shot rear cross member and one rusty bulkhead outrigger cracked and the other not too far away, the rest of the Chassis seems not too bad as I always protected it with underseal and then black Hammerite. I was looking at all the work involved in replacing these three chassis parts and thought I would be just as well replacing the whole chassis. Then the other problem raised its ugly head, I live in Scotland just between Glasgow and Edinburgh in Airdrie and there isn't many guys that do it. I found a guy from here from Bartec that used to be in Airdrie but he seems to be too busy just now and hasn't got back to me. No one can even give me a quote for the total cost. , and I don't see many 110 (19j diesel) chassis out there. I am looking at a lost cause here? I want my big machine back for the summer holidays for my kids who love to sit in the long side facing bench seats in the back. It is only a three door 110 and has hardly any electrics at all , it doesn't even have a radio and the engine doesn't even have the turbo fitted to it. Any advice is very welcome here. Cheers Ger

Cheers for the reply there buddy, yes I am actually really good with spanners and ratchets ,all kinds. I just don't have the lifting equipment to do it myself, got plenty jacks though . I have considered doing it myself although im just a bit worried about the transmission and the engine coming off at the same time ,is it a middle gear box cross member that screws off? I noticed that some of the galvanised chassis don't come with the gear box cross member and you have to get them separate and bolt this on yourself? Any advice welcome buddy. Cheers Ger

I had a 90 NA diesel yonks ago, god it was slow and a 110 must be even slower
If you cannot get the repairs done for you then your choices are basically repair the chassis yourself or buy a new one and replace it.
Repair is generally cheaper but having been there and chased rust around a chassis my money would be on replacement which is more a spanner job. Unfortunately it won't be just the chassis cost as there will be lots of gremlins, bodges, rust and incidental repairs and replacements needing done at the same time. You can always rent, borrow or steal an engine hoist for the short time you would need it, its not always worth buying one if you are only going to use it once.

Agree with above , can you weld? If just parts of the chassis are rotten you can get replacement out riggers rear chassis posted to your door Also stay away from hammerite on chassis drys to hard and cracks away won’t help the chassis your best of with a wax oil

Gibsons Auto Services in Cumnock would be my suggestion if you want to get someone to do it - they do chassis swaps all the time.
