Hey up Oldseadog, a front or rear tank ? Oh I've been filmed by Look North at work today, the reporter was lovely ;) :5bdrool5:
Front tanks. I made one for each side to replace the original which had started to rot through near the top, the other went under the passenger seat.

With them being just about square apart from the tops, they were dead easy to knock up.

Hey up all,

I've the body of the front axle painted, nice n shiney :)

A Question here : Did Fairey ever make 10 spline free wheeling hubs ?, I can only find 24 spline ones  any help or info is much appreciated.

Regards Chris

II think I have a pair. They're on at the moment but I want to take them off and fit a pair of avm hubs or similar.

I assume they're 10 not 24. Haven't looked.

The condition is ok. One has some wearing on the centre nut for switching them. Needs a smaller socket to use it.

II reckon once I've got something to replace them then I could sell them

Hey up, onecelledcreature, Id be interested, give us a shout when you get round to changing them cheers

right a little more done today

the new springs greased and on along with the front axle, she's finally got her boots on the floor.

Hello folks,

I've got the gearbox stripped and cleaned, whoever put it together last time loved their instant gasket or as between the bellhousing and the gearbox casing, not putting gasket's on at all, also the previous owner clearly didnt like oil as there wasnt any in the main gearbox casing
So I need both front and rear layshaft bearings and a gasket set

It's all good fun

Regards Chris

Hey up folks,
I've got the rest of the gearbox stripped down and cleaned. I'll begin rebuilding tomorrow when I've picked the rest of the bits, got the gasket set and another of the lever for engaging 4wd in high box today

This locating peg was snapped and the thrust washer that goes against the splines was on the wrong side of the distance piece , so it's assembled wrong at some point in it's life  scary

Getting the rest of me bit's tomorrow so I can start the rebuild.

Regards Chris

Hey up James, It didnt hve any oil inside the main gearbox casing but bloody loads in the transfer box & output box, so maybe they thought there's a balance hole between the transfer and gearbox.

The teeth are ok none are chipped or broken so I'm ok there. The only thing is the 3rd/4th syncro unit very slightly deformed as though it's been dropped at so point which makes it slightly eccentric, but it doesnt rub or catch anywere it shouldnt so it may be ok. And at £58.00 for a new one . buying £2.00 gasket sets is one thing this however is quite different but if needs must.

hopefully she'll be ok

Regards Chris

Right then, a bit of a update here.

The gearbox is finished and in along with the 200tdi temporarily so can the engine fitted and tacked on. then the engine will be out again to fully weld the mount's and send the flywheel casing away to glencoyne engineering to be modified.

gearbox in.

The disco mountings, they need cleaning up yet.

it's in, well ish final bit of jiggery pokery tomorrow but it's getting there.

Regards Chris

Here's some more picces from last weekend.

Cheers Cabbie.

Me drilling out spot weld's for the doubling plate, this was plan one thinking i'd use the disco chassis plates

And plan two cutting mountings off completely and insert them into a piece of 1/8" plate

Not a very good picture but it shows how I clamped them in position for welding.

and the finished artical

I'm going to get the other side done and on this weekend
Regards Chris

Right then,

The engine is in finally with the mounting's finished and primed,
I did the same as the other side, inserting the mounting's into a piece of 1/8" plate. But with this side I had to make some spacers to bring the mounting outward's from the block by 3/4" so it would meet the chassis.

Also with this side behind the mounting is another tapped hole normally covered, so I drilled the mounting to make use of it.

The spacing piece's

Setting up the backing plate for marking.

showing the slot for inserting the mounting

tacked on, with holes for spot welds

Fully welded and primed

Engine in and running, no shake at start or stop and quite smooth under power.

1/4" under the turbo, it does'nt touch at all.

all round brill weekend

Regards Chris

looking at what you've done so far i'll guess you are going to clock the turbo outlet upwards to save you cutting the inner wing panel, it's a pretty easy job and stops the inner wing falling to bits from the vibrations
