Hi Guys I live in New Zealand and have just fitted another engine in my Range Rover to replace a cooked one.
Starts and idles good as but will only accelerate to about 1500 rpm then dies, backfires and will not rev up any higher.
I have searched online for solutions, changed and checked almost everything I can think of with no change.
I am leaning towards a fuel problem and have been unable to find the fuel rail pressure other than one that told me it should be around 32psi at idle which it is.
Fuel pump was replaced about 18 months ago.
Any advise or suggestions would be welcome.

I know nowt about the V8 but I often read on here about resetting the adaptive settings or some such things.

Hi Datatek, I will look into that. My son has had some experience with an issue like this on another vehicle and we are looking at a cam angle sensor issue at the moment. Thanks for your reply

Hi Ratae, Diagnostics is not with P38 specific equipment. That would only be available in Christchurch I think about 3 hrs away.
The unit I have borrowed from my local garage has showed up an issue with the cam angle sensor so will follow up on that and post results later today.
Thanks for your reply.

Well Guys I think I have found problem. Pretty sure you call it cam angle sensor not up to speed with all this electronic stuff yet. Tip was bent over thinking one of the tines on the flexi plate may be bent and have caused it. Will remove flywheel cover in morning to find cause.
Will post an update when fixed for others who may experience this problem.
I miss the electronic distributor and four barrel carb on my old 350 chev motor things were so much simpler back then.
I guess us old dogs have to just keep on learning eh.

That would be the crank sensor not the cam sensor

Hi Ratae
I have found and fixed problem. And yes I am picking it may have been caused while detaching or attaching torque converter. One of the tines on the flexi plate was bent and had damaged the crank sensor in turn bending a few more tines. After replacing the sensor and carefully straightening the tines it now runs perfect.
Many thanks for advise.
