Does anyone know of a 12-volt source that I can tap into.to add a step down converter to bring it to 5 volt to add USB ports for charging purposes. don't want an external device coming out of cigarette lighter.

Thanks in advance

It would help if you could tell us why you do not want anything to come out of the cigarettelighter/accessory plug, apart from the obvious necessity to put the key into position 1 to make it work.
There obviously are extension accessory plugs that do plug into said point which have built in USB ports.

Purely because it looks horrible having a plug in USB adapter to the cigarette port, I woul like to mount a flush usb to the dash or under the dash , I just don't want anything coming out of cigarette port.

You can easily take a fused feed off the fuse box to a USB socket.

I've just done this. Piggy back fuse on the fuse box, used the 12v socket circuit fuse. Seconds to do and reversible if required.
12v to 2 USB output adapter and fed two leads under the centre console and flush mounted 2 USB sockets in tge window switch panel.

Also as a side note: where in the fuse box did you decide to put this piggyback ?
Thanks

The fuse board under the steering wheelhas a spare socket on mine. Its switched with ign. Just add a wire in there with a blade crimp on the end. Earth wherever.

This is the kit I have picked up as per the advice , so we will see how it goes
I have headunit coming too, which I am going to be doing a "tasteful" dash mod. removing tape deck and and multichanger.
