110 HCPU to Van/County Body Conversion - How Hard?

Hi folks, I'm searching for a 110 at the moment and was wondering, how much of a job is it, to convert from a High Capacity Pick up to either a van or station wagon back end?

Are the chassis the same underneath and just the different bodies mounted on, or are mountings in different places, but new mountings can be fabbed up as required when swapping the body?
I'm guessing the chassis themselves would be the same, just mountings or bodies themselves that differ.

Hope you can shine some light on this for me please.

Chassis are all the same, only the mounting differ and they can all be bought for a few quid each.. find the defender 110 on line parts manual and it clearly shows the different ones you need...
Pretty straightforward all bolt off bolt on and quite self explanatory as you work your way through the job
Did a van to double cab a few years ago (pics are on here somewhere)
You should be able to get a few bob for the hi cap tub, pick up roof and rear bulkhead to help pay for the new body

I did hope that being a big Tonka toy, that would be the case, but wanted to check before I made any expensive decisions.

Would it not be cheaper and easier to just buy a 110 Station Wagon? I am guessing this is not the case for some reason.

i would buy a 110 sw done

i converted one and it was quite expensive and a ballache.

Vilguy/Lightning, I understand what you are both saying.

The reason I ask is that Hi cap pick ups seem to be available a little cheaper than station wagons and hard tops.

Whatever version I buy, the body will be removed at some point to check, clean, repair if req'd and protect the chassis, so wondered if while the body is off, would it be viable to turn a hi cap into a station wagon.

Well, it can be converted.

But would the cost of conversion not exceed the extra cost of buying a Station Wagon in the first place? As an added thought, used Station Wagons tend to be in better condition on account of their being used as cars in many cases.

That's what l found when l was looking. Who buys a hard top/truck cab and does not put it to work? My 2005 110 CSW (bought last year) has clearly never done anything hard in it's 56,000 miles. The previous owner used it to go shooting with his friends. It never went out unless the weather was OK.....so it's in great condition
