Finally got the swivel balls on tonight. I was always terrified of that job when I previously owned landies... But it was pretty simple! New CV joints too of course (my God that circlip is a ropey solution!)

I couldn't fit the stib axles sadly, as the boys at famous four forgot to include the stib axle inner oil seal in the kit. They did include the roller bearing though... Anyway, oil seal has been ordered. Sadly this delays getting the wheels on.

In other news, the fuel tank arrived. Annoyingly I think it's come with its cradle... annoying as I ordered another one too! Would have been nice if lrdirect called me to check if I was a Muppet.

A brand spanking new compressor has just been ordered, along with that dinitrol "large car" kit.

I'll make the rear axle brake pipe tomorrow, and start thinking about fuel stuff.

New adwest steering pump, bilstein b6 steering damper, and 3 x OEM track rod ends ordered (2 x RH, 1 x LH). I ordered from paddocks which made me feel a bit dirty, but I'm having a minor strop with LR direct after the muddle with the fuel tank cradles... and the general non-reaction from the girl on the phone. They've given me a good service so far, so I wont slag them off, but I have to say I'm impressed to see paddocks offer a sat & sun delivery option.

Forecast says it's tiping down all day tomorrow :( - still, the bulkhead has to be removed....

Doing a great job there looks like the best protected chassis I have seen for a while, must be great when you stand back and look how its coming together now.
Just a comment to consider, when you put the instant gasket on something like the diff housing I would go completely around each stud and then join up the circles on the outside to make a complete seal, reason being that you isolate the studs from the oil and then it cant migrate down the stud, and weep out from under the nuts

Good point. I was too focused on remembering how to do it so as not to introcude lumps of sealant into the diff that I forgot about that. I'll remember to keep my eye on it once it's filled with oil... clean the studs, etc.

In terms of a thing to looks at, I'm certainly very pleased with it, but I also feel it looks an awful lot more drab than some of the projects on here... you looks at Aarons or Gatsos and those sort of projects, where everything is multicoloured. I think they are much nicer to look at. Sadly that's not the look I'm going for with the finished vehicle, and the trade-off is that the first stage of build is not as pretty :)

I've only just had chance to crack into the fuel stuff that lrdirect sent me... Now I am annoyed... I ordered an OE pump, which their website states comes without the assembly, and then I ordered the all makes pump (cheap) that comes with the assembly. The idea of course being to swap the pump over so I have an OE pump on an allmakes assembly.

The allmakes pump has a totally different electrical connector on it, to the OE one! This is in-tank, so I don't really want to bugger around with the electrical connections.

Here's what I have:

Had a lie in and a nip into Newbury to buy some more meths this morning. I then spent a very wet afternoon stripping the rest of the bulkhead for removal:

I've managed to feed the whole of the loom back through the bulkhead into the cab, and of course I've stripped out the pedals and heater box.

The loom is now only connected via half a dozen wires which go into the head lining.

Bulkhead off tomorrow hopefully...

Loving your knee protection, (I presume that's what the foam is for) What do the neighbours think of it?
LOL, great photos though.

The foam is where I cut the dumb iron off to retain the chassis number. It's really only on there in case some child runs into it. I can imagine a parent would be rather law-suit probe these days if little tarquin came gushing with blood.

Call it a 'nod' to health and safety.

Neighbours have been done actually. Most of them are far too busy commuting to notice much. The thing that cheers me up every day is seeing the kids walking past it with their parents, and inevitably the little boy always stops and points, whilst dragging the parent back. Not many 4x4's have that effect!

Your lucky about your neighbours, ask Aaron. Good luck with it, Looking good, hopefully the little boys will still be stopping and pointing when it's finished.

For all the right reasons of course. :p

well I've just been told by our local scrappy that the old chassis, plus a couple of hundred more kilos of scrap steel is not worth him collecting... not even with the cat. The china slow-down apparently. Last time I check steel prices (maybe 4 or 5 years ago) it was £150 per tonne. He reckon he gets about £20 - £30 per tonne now when he takes it in.

oh well, it'll have to be cut up and put in the back of the saab. There's irony in that somewhere...

looking very very nice ,,,,,,just a note mine looks good now (thanx by the way) ,but in a few months poss years they will all look the same ,lol :D

aint that the truth! but don't remind me at this stage, or I'll stop scraping the rust off the old bits!

In other news, the compressor arrived today... that's my evening sorted.

I got a tenner for my scrap chassis a few months ago and that was after spending a few months welding on around half its weight in new steel. Probably cost more to take to the scrapyard lol.
