109" starting problem

just aquired a w reg 109 mainly for the v8 thats in it wich i am going to put in my carawagon, engines sweet as a nut but there seems to be a wiring fault somewere, basically when you turn the ignition on no lights show on dash, when turned a little bit further the ignition light and oil light comes on, turning to engage starter engine fires up and runs as it should but only by holding the ignition switch in the middle position, let it go and engine cuts out, anybody got any idea's

I have never had a problem like this bat have you checked that the coil is still getting a feed when the ignition is in the on position as it could be that its only getting this feed when its turned right over. If that is the case then its probably the ignition switch as if it was wiring to the coil then it would never start.

Im only gessing mind but it would be the first thing i would check.

no, no power to coil when on only when turned to middle position point were on a diesel the glowplug light comes on

back cap on the ignition barrel is either jiggered or has worked loose and just needs tightning up again simple thing really
