I have recently bought a Series III LWB hardtop with non-original seats. I am 6'4" tall and find it a bit cramped in the driver's seat. Would there be more room for the driver if I were able to get original seats? I am in Australia. There are a full set available on Marketplace, apparently out of a Series IIA. Any ideas?

It depends how your height is distributed, I’m 6’4” and I start getting aches in my legs after
a while due to how the seats (“deluxe” seats) are angled more than anything

One of the things that really ****es me off.
People who junk perfectly good land rover seats and then stuff in the seats usually removed from some luxury car, and usually much too big to properly fit in the limited space available.
And they always appear to be so pleased with themselves for this amazing achievement.
Do you know anyone else with a standard 109 ?
Maybe you could try out the standard seats before buying some

I'm not particularly tall, 5'10, but have defender seats installed and have absolutely no issues doing 5 or 6 hour journeys in the Series.

Well, no issues with the seats, just the noise, speed and smell.

This photo shows about 200mm or 8" from top of my seat down to top of seat box. Anyone with standard seats able to measure distance on theirs please. The non-genuine seat in my LRS3 is quite stiff I would not describe it as a soft seat. The issue is that I'm having an issue seeing under the top of the windscreen.

Would you not be more interested in the height at the back of the seat base in this case?

There is actually about 40mm drop between front and back of seat. It was a guess as my spirit level was too long to fit

If you look at this picture of what look like standard seats, then the seating position would be a fair bit lower than mine, don't you think "forgotthelandinggear"?

Apologies for the lack of measurements, I’ve come down with something nasty (probably just man flu )

Reading back I was being a bit silly suggesting there’d be a difference in the measurements since it’s the seatbox that’s sloped as opposed to the the actual cushion, so the distance to the top of the cushion from the seatbox should be consistent no matter where it’s measured :vb-doh:.

Looking at the picture you’ve just attached I’d estimate the normal basic seats are about half the height of your current seats, I’d also hazard a guess at them having a lot more give than yours too.

I agree with what grewth said in finding one to try out, but with that said I’ve just done a 250mile round trip for the Land Rovers of London Christmas meet. What I found was that if I forced myself to sit with my knee in line with my hip instead of what I used to do which was to ‘manspread’ I tolerated it much better with a lot less pain. Key word being less though and not completely gone :D

Thanks so much for your reply...this forum is very new to me. I only took delivery of my Series III LWB Hardtop about 5 days ago. Lots of work to do. I've had 2 knee replacements and one hip replacement so I will be conscious of comfort when the journeys get longer.

Ahhh best keep the journeys short then really, I find the clutch the most brutal on my knee and I’d definitely say I’m in the lowest aged bracket of landy owners at 20 years old

In my opinion the thicker 'Deluxe' seats are no good because they lessen leg room and bring you forwards to the steering etc.

The simpler seats for me work the best because they are thinner, fit better, are easy to move about and if needed you can simply add a cushion to the bottom or back to suit yourself. They are also cheaper to buy, maintain, and repair. They also look bloody good in a series!!

Less Is More.

I think for a Series 3 with the vinyl dash the deluxe seats look better, but in series 2a backwards the simple ones are the way
