1.8 petrol engine mods

Why is the 2 litre L-series diesel always overlooked? Its fecking bombproof, cheap and easy to work on. Put it in a landrover that doesn't rust a.k.a. a freelander and you're on to a winner. Mine doesn't have ABS, HDC or TC either. Its the most trouble free landrover ever made.

Don't get me wrong, that's the one I'd go for as well. (and I did). But he asked for a petrol. He's been told it wasn't the best of engine, ok. But it seems like we have a broken record here. It's coming back and again...

Jaysus i've been away for the weekend with no internet and come back to 7 pages of squabbling and ear bashing.

Mad Hat Man - yes LPG does burn hotter but it's a closed loop system integrated with the car's engine management system so not a problem. It will also run quieter and smoother, the oil will stay cleaner longer etc - I've ran converted cars before.

'Wear and tear' means tyres, brake pads etc aren't covered, everything else is, I've checked the policy docs. Converting to LPG doesn't affect the cover, apart from the LPG parts aren't covered themselves, again got it in writing from them.

Fanatic - tosser, **** off and suck your boyfriend's knob, at least you'll be useful for something.

With the modifications done on a K series running petrol, you should have a fair few miles of trouble free motoring. However, this is where you really should think twice. Gas runs a hell of a lot hotter, and the modified gaskets are only to built to withstand a certain temperature, as is the whole engine and i'm pretty sure it's not built to withstand the temperatures of running gas. Especially with it having such limited cooling capabilities (the waterways are very narrow and i'll be surprised if they would efficiently cool it running gas).

By all means a gas conversion can be very good on other petrol engines, you say you've ran gas conversions before but i doubt you've ran one on the K series. Do the gas conversion and you're back to a troublesome engine, even after the modifications. The modifications lessen the risk of head/engine failure. Converting to gas puts that risk right back there.

at the risk of starting a new row my 1.8 has been happily running on lpg for two years and sixty thousand miles.
It dosn't get thrashed (much)
gets green laned lightly and tows a 8x5 trailer on occasion .
Im not saying shes perfecto but shes mine :)

Do you notice much of a change in engine temperature? Have you fitted the remote thermostat? Just asking as i'm curious. Have you done / had done any other cooling mods?

You wont, necessarily, see any temp change as the hippoo monitors coolant temp coming back from the radiator, not that exiting the injun.
I still maintain that the most effective "mod" on the K series injun is an EWP that continues to run after injun shutdown.

She has the remote thermostat fitted with the lowest opening temp
but apart from this she is standard.
I know that gas burns hotter but honestly I can't see any change in temp between petrol & gas.
On the subject of cooling the gas vaporiser takes water from the cars cooling system to warm the LPG as it changes from liquid to vapor so the water going back to the engine is cooler than when it came out.
You can get a nasty freeze burn from LPG its bloody cold on skin and it stings for ages!
