Just to rub it in. Unless it's a few quid, ALWAYS get a price beforehand

Be honest, tell him you didn't expect that, you thought it was going to be £100. Say you're sorry, that you don't have a lot of cash and is there anything he can do. Then start crying, really really scream and start rolling on the floor.. get a mate to youtube it. :D

I charge £30 for a flat head and £45 for wedge shaped heads(need clocking) and I consider it easy money for 20mins work so mr £200 is having a laugh

Head skim round here for £35 and that includes VAT :-0

£220 is a joke if crack and pressure test are the same thing then it's £60

right well you know you lot are saying 60 to 100 quid, is that with the valves lapped in ? i know you have to have this done if you get the head skimmed .... ?

Not sure how skimming a head affects the valve seats but it goes without saying really that you'd re seat them while the head was off and replace valve seals etc too.

you can do valves at the same time ,but valves come into head skimming in that there head is nearer the head face when head skimmed and could catch pistons if enough metal removed to correct that valve seats can be cut to recess valve the same amount as is skimmed of head

So that would be quite a lot then to reduce the valve seats.

Has this guy presented a detailed list of what he has done and charged for.

As usual nothing is as straight forward as first intimated.

He skimmed the head, pressure and crack tested it and now he reseated the valves as the head was skimmed to within an inch of its life? :D

well iv coughed up £100 told him i was sking and the rest was on its way, he doesnt know what car i drive or where i live so i think he had double charged me at a chance and would be happy if he didnt recieve any more ?

No9 sequence: 1 open check 8, 2 open check 7, 3 open check 6 etc..............
You need to rotate the engine by hand - make sure the engine is cold (overnight) before doing the clearances ;)
