Hi guys,

I got my 4x4 about a month ago, and im very happy wiht it!

before I go off road with it I wanted to check the recovery winch was working correctly and well, it dosnt.

Its very .. strange.

I plug the remote control in and press it to take the cable out and it goes in and vice versa.

Think I have figured that out though I think the previous owners have unwound it and wound it back the wrong way, im unsure if this is the root of my problem.

The drum will spin and get maybe half a foot out then stop, the winch will click like its trying to do somthing but nothing happens.

It wont attempt to move untill its rested for quite a while.

when i tested the winch out before i purchased it work fine but now ive got it home it dosnt, very weird to be honest.

Any ideas what I can do?

Also, so I dont fill up another post.

where abouts in stafforshire can I go off road, have found one or two places but cant find any more.

Both in stafford, a fishing place (where no one fishes) and just a random load of fields that people walk there dogs (and go off road, lots of evidence of that at least)

I haven't been off road yet, still waiting on tyres but what I have discovered all over the web is that just because somewhere is being used for off road doesn't mean you can use it for off road..

im not familiar with your winch but on my warn winch you can also pull ot the cable by hand by turning the lever on the right of the drum..have you tried pulling all the cable out by hand and then winching it back in?

I will have a look tomorrow, I did look though and couldnt find any form of turning it or unlocking it by hand, it is very enclosed though and hard to get to so might have missed somet.

Thats sounds like youll get yer motor taken off yer by the filth.
try http://www.paynplay.co.uk/
or get your self laning plenty of peps round here will go with yer and maybe they help sort yer winch/drink your beer.

Hmmz, I do want to go laining but theres apprently no where in staffordshire 'legally' speaking, could easy get onto the chase etc but thats not gunna be a good idea!

One or two pay and plays around here, allways thought they would be a silly price tbh so never looked at em till now.

Where does insurance stand with the pay and play sites tho?

Had a busy day at work so I didnt get chance to have a look at the winch so still unresolved :(

Little jolly along to the peaks will get you some great lanes.Try the laning section or the off roading saction see what you get.
As for PnP prices about £30 for a day top end, cheaper than taking me missus shopping for the day or sitting in the pub with a bit of lunch so still worth considering.
