Hi mate rear part not so good, three layers too have cut out rot in centre part, first will remove rear tub rot roughly white lines this will allow me to remove inner rotten part of cill again roughly marked, as sandwiched between rear tub and outer panel and replace, then centre part, tub repair worries about scorching paint and finally outer cill
Ordered a air joggler today
Will be making some of the parts at blacksmiths as can use their bender etc few more cuts and spot welds bit more straightening and will be going back together ps is this the brake pipe you changed

I would do what is easiest/quickest, less cut out the better for the car.

How are you joggling the steel sheet? I ask as I bought a joggler (cheap one) and it is bloody rubbish.

What you think have cut out damaged outer cill inner cills are rust free, put camera inside no rust or outside or end, don't really want to cut into good factory metal, so have suggested a joggled joint at white line on outer cill at stiffener, this leaves, undisturbed metal at body mount and bottom of door puller, there is no rust not even surface still factory rust paint as seen in pictures
Asking all you welders what you think/do
Rear of cill needs attention at end damage let water in and it seemed to collect there, no rust on inner cills either and certainly no screwdriver holes anywhere

Hi mate

Apologises for the delay , alas done too much indoors moving things etc and ripped the hell out my badk so laid up, still never mind it is what it is 🤣

Can see ur doing a sterling job and see what u mean about the good and bad bits , find it very interesting how things are put together , plus like like u say shame to cut out good metal if not needed , of course will leave it to u in what u think is best

Indeed that back pipe was the one I done along with the very short metal pipes that go between the caliper and hose ,

Plse don’t worry if any of the paint gets marked as needs must as I know I’m in capable hands and know I would have got myself into trouble due to lack of knowledge when it comes to welding and if things are cut out how it can a cause panels to twist or move

It has opened my eyes that’s for sure in what areas fail and seen more and more sills rusting where it’s all hidden behind those plastic sill covers

Thks so much once again for all the hard work that ur doing and find this very interesting

Have a good one mate and chat soon

Hi mate

Funny anough I had to look up what a joggler was , lol

Indeed bet that’s fun trying to do it manually particularly if the metal is quite thick

Hope ur good mate

Hi managed to get end of cill lower wheel arch out today, very rusty will make a new piece maybe in two pieces, but can now get to innercill to release and cut out rust so one more cut and it's going back together hopefully
Bit more straightening to do and rotten inner is a challenging shape but looking good, got some weld through primer for seams
Typically I just weighed in an old body which I could probably have used some bits
Have a sump guard for you think I have a transmission one somewhere will have a rummage joggler also arrived having to pick times to work as so hot all the best

Omg mate as I must confess I never thought for a second it was that involved

Hope ur doing ok and not having to work in this heat

I’m so lucky and feel very blessed it’s in such capable hands and can’t even say how grateful I am. , thk u so much

Ur Doing an incredible job. , ah yes ref the sump guards , thk u for that and at least now they won’t need to come off as I have one of those vacuum pumps that I wish to try and change the engine oil

Know after seeing the pictures I would have got well out my depth and royally would have screwed it up

Makes a lot of sense where u can only cut it out bit by bit to prevent things twisting , another thing I wouldn’t have thought of

After seeing this I have a whole new level of respect for welding

Hope ur keeping well my friend and that I hope u now have ur feet up for a well deserved beer

Once again from the bottom of my heart thk u so much for all that ur doing ,

@tyregeezer doing some good work there and informative. Nice to see how these motors are built & repaired

@gstuart keep the faith…

Plus 1 and indeed very interesting to see how it should be done

Will be good for future posts when others are having issues of what’s involved in repairing them

Plus of course what areas to keep an eye out for as these discovery’s age

Most of rot was caused by damage to outer cill but they all suffer at ends of cill all the bits behind plastic that catch mud, I suppose the answer might be to treat all these areas, structurally only removing lip of cill so not an issue also behind centre mount, little is better but had to remove the little wheel arch piece as is rusty in several places although half of it is perfect all going well so far rust almost all gone
All the best
