I put down a refundable £200 to reserve

I've heard about 'refundable' deposits, i had to put one down, basically only got it back if the car blew up etc or some other 'not as described' major issue

Cars done 55k miles, anything in particular should have been done? Gear box service, cam belt/timing chain etc?

11yrs 55k? That is incredibly low mileage. I am a very low mileage user, mine can cover less than 20 miles per week quite frequently, and even I can do 4k per year. Usually these beasties can do 55, or more, in first 3yrs , with 3rd owner, on, doing the lower miles.Have you checked the MoT history?
