Freelander 1 removing the rear axles

Are you in the UK? With no rear prop, do you have this declared as a modification with your insurance? Hacking the rear driveline up may well be boarderline on if it is truly roadworthy or not. Fixing the vehicle is really the best option or simply getting another car if you don't want to fix...

    Discovery 4 Re-Map ?

Also worth noting that the TDV6 was used in lots and lots of vehicles. Loads of Land Rover products from a D3, thru FFRR, RRS, D5 and Velar. But it was also used in a whole heap of Jaguars too, as well as Ford's, Citroen's and Peugeot's. And is still used today in the current Ford Ranger and VW...

    Discovery 4 Re-Map ?

But they aren't related. A stock engine stands just as much chance of failure, a remap will not alter the odds.

    Discovery 4 Re-Map ?

Yet I don't think there has ever been a case of a remap causing the failure. It also isn't that the engine isn't strong, there is just a potential issue in the design. Factory examples produced up to around 300bhp in some models/regions.

LT77 short bell housing, replacement with R380

R380 stumpy is mostly a direct fit, it was intended for warranty use in the switch over from LT-77 to R380. https://ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/product/short-bellhousing-r380/

    VNT turbo on 300tdi Issue

Any exhaust mods? The inlet could have an impact too. And as jonlad said, where you record boost from can also vary what you see. I assume you are also running a bigger intercooler? I'm no turbo expert, but I wouldn't focus too heavily on boost numbers. Although without before and after dyno...

    VNT turbo on 300tdi Issue

Do remember boost is a measure of resistance, not flow. Breathing mods and other things can reduce boost, but increase flow and power. Have you had it on a dyno to see what it is doing? Or what other mods do you have?

    SLICKSHIFT

    SLICKSHIFT

I would say no. The slick shift isn't about reducing slop, it reduces the actual throw (usually at a trade off of slightly more weight). If you have slop or difficulty finding gears, then there is something wrong already. However, a good standard setup vs the slick shift still has a HUGE...

    SLICKSHIFT

Sounds more like something else going on tbh. Certainly this is not the case on my brothers 90 with the slick shift.

    SLICKSHIFT

Yes. Both LT-85 and LT-77 have reverse next to 1st. For rhd, away and up. R380 has reverse opposite 5th, ie towards you and down.

    SLICKSHIFT

I don't think its that, just that everyone has an opinion, but often not based on logic, common sense or 1st hand experience. Or they just have unrealistic expectations. The slick shift kits reduce the throw by quite a lot and make the gearchange quite a bit more positive. But it is still a 4x4...

    SLICKSHIFT

Where is reverse gear? LT-85 looks like this: And has a super long throw, making gearchanges quite slow. But it is a relatively strong box. LT-77 looks like this:

    SLICKSHIFT

Slick shift makes a HUGE difference on an LT-77. However, Op needs to know what gearbox they have. Most factory V8's will be the LT-85. No idea what they mean by 350, unless they mean 350 Chevy SBC, but then that is hardly factory......

    FL2 versus BMW X5?

There was only one generation of Freelander 2 (with a mild facelift). However, there have been several variants and generations of the BMW X5. So it will largely come down to what you are actually comparing. Four gens of X5 according to Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_X5 The original...

Freelander 2 (LR2) Max tyre size for Freelander 2?

Thinking 17" rims, AT for off road use. With or without a lift, not sure what the limitations are on the FL2 with tyres. Don't want rubbing, but want improve ground clearance. These on MuddyMods website are 245/70R17, although it is an image on their lift kit page. Not sure what is being...

    Ex military 90 soft top 1994 - 300TDi conversion

R380 stumpy box exists to allow as a direct fitment (mostly) for an LT-77. This was done to allow warranty claims on LT-77's after production stopped. 1.6 transfer box was usually only on military 110's and with a Tdi will give way too short gearing to be useful. 200Tdi will fit in the same...

BTW - not trying to be be unhelpful. But anything heavily modified, could be a minefield unless you have some knowledge and are prepared to do lots of work and spend money. There are also a million ways to modify a vehicle. So without seeing or knowing exactly what has been done, it might not...
